Panama: Hotel recommendation in El Valle for tonight or tomorrow:

Had some friends come into town today, and they're thinking of driving out to El Valle from PC this afternoon and spending the night, possibly two. Does anyone on the list have a recommendation and/or a phone number for a place? Also, they have a GPS, but how difficult of a drive is that in the dark? Thanks Jim

Panama: More crime at the beaches:

There has been quite a few break-ins and robberies in the Albrook area as well over the last couple of months. A couple that lives in the house three doors up from us came home one night (mid-January) and after they opened their gate and drove, in a group of armed, masked men ran in and held them at gunpoint overnight. They stole the car and just about everything in the house. A version of this has happened 2 or 3 other times in our area since December. Just fyi, Jim

Panama: Nanny Suggestions:

Just checking in with the group here to see if anyone has a nanny they could recommend. We have had a wonderful woman living with us for the past 7 months, but she had to move back home to Columbia. We've talked with all of the neighbors and are meeting with an agency when we get back to Panama in January, but wanted to reach out here to the group here as well. We live in Panama City, and if anyone has a recommendation please feel free to pass their info along. Thanks! Jim

Panama: Travel agency in PC?:

Does anyone know of a good travel agency in Panama City? I have to book a lot of travel in and out of the country for work and use an agency in the States right now, but would like to localize it with somone here if possible. Thanks! Jim

Panama: Panamanian Real Estate recommendations:

Lenaolsen - I would make a point to call Kate Kossack. She is an expat from the US and is an absolute whirlwind of efficiency. We had trouble getting other realtors to even call us back, and then someone from this forum put us in touch with Kate. She usually answers emails within minutes and rarely missed a phone call - both of which we are finding to be rare qualities in Panama. She was a great help for us in our move, I would imagine you'd have a similar experience. I pasted her contact info from her email signature below. Good luck! Brazil: Business license in Brazil:

Hi everyone! I'm usually on the Panama forum, as my company just relocated my wife and I to Panama City, but my question today pertains to Brazil. Our company already has a smaller number of branches licensed and operating in Brazil - Rio, Sorocaba, etc. I'm currently in Brazil to help set up a new branch that will be serving a new customer, and it appears that the business license process/timeline is holding them up here quite a bit. As it is in Panama, it is of course a very long convoluted process. However, I have a feeling that the team here might not be fully understanding what is permissible and what is not during the application process. For instance - they are waiting to put the office computer/server on site until the license is received, waiting to set up shelves in the warehouse, etc. Not knowing if they were accurate about the need to wait to accomplish those tasks, I though I would check with the group here to see if anyone had insight into this process, or could help point me in the right direction to learn more. Feel free to reply on the forum, or shoot me a private message. Thanks for the help! Jim

Panama: Trail Running!:

Does anyone in the group trail run at all, or even better, trail run anywhere near Panama Ctiy? I used to run quite a bit when I lived in Washington and would love to start again out here. I don't know if there are any official "events" out here, but if anyone knew some hiking trails in the general area of Panama City where you could spend a few hours that would be awesome. Any suggestions? Thanks! Jim

Panama: Portuguese lessons:

I need to get up to speed with some rudimentary Portuguese knowledge. Ideally I'd go to a school locally like Berlitz or something, but my travel schedule prevents me from doing something that scheduled, I'd end up missing most of the lessons. So, would anyone here know a person/place where I could take some basic lessons whenever time permitted? I know there are things I can use online, but finding someone locally I could meeting for coffee and some lessons once or twice a week would be ideal. Thanks! Jim

Panama: Installing vonage with Cableonda:

Has anyone here run into trouble getting their vonage box set up? We're using CableOnda for internet, and for some reason I cannot get Vonage to connect, and it's driving me nuts.... I have a feeling it has something to do with the cable/wireless modem CableOnda gave us, but before I bought a different one I though I'd check with the group here. Thanks Jim

Panama: Contact info for maid / nanny agency in Panama City:

Could anyone recommend a maid/nanny agency here in Panama City? Thanks! Jim
