China: Moving to Tianjin:
Yes, I am about to return to Beijing for my 65th time and can provide some insight about Tianjin. I will again take the $100 boat to Tanggu from Inchon.
Tianjin is about a $3 train ride to the Central station of Beijing. If you never have been to China, go to the library and borrow a Lonely Planet n China. They provide basic informations, such as numbers and other language idioms.
Do not purchase the book as they are available there for less than $10.
You might consider living between Beijing and Tianjin, as they are about 100 miles apart. There are excellent compounds between them.
Tanggu is about 30 miles east fo Tianajin.

China: move to Beijing:
I have lived in Beijing (64 times) nd would recommend any where other than Chaoyang. Why? osts. Rents have increased over 20 times there and unless you work there,it would be to your advantage to live elsewhere.

China: Yantai or Shenyang ?:
Yantai is very remote and is not on the main line from Beijing. I spent two nights by train to arrive there, whereas Shenyang is strategically situated and only an over night by train and the carriages from/to North Korea arrive there and the train to Moscow also arrives and departs there. I suggest Shenyang with it Russian population would be a treat.

China: Young and Single - Going to SuZhou:
At $2000 USD a month you are doing quite well and should save with the paid accommodations about $1500 a month.
Su Zhou is about an hour by rail from Shanghai ("Sung Hi as the locals pronounce.) It should be better to live there than commute.
