Brazil: Looking to meet Expats in Floripa:

I'm about 2 and a half hours drive from Floripa, in Lages. I'll be coming to Floripa in January hopefully! I was also there just last weekend! I love it there.

Brazil: GIVING UP BRAZIL. RETURNING TO THE US:

Hey have you thought about just moving to another part of Brazil? I'm in Lages in Santa Catarina and I love it! Kinda quiet for a city and friendly with low level crime and I walk around the streets at night on my own quite safe even at 10pm. I also agree though that it is expensive here too and the red tape you have to go through is just rediculous. I am having trouble at the moment, just registering my name! I moved here from the UK so it is a culture shock but I'm used to it now. Sometimes Brazilians come across as being very rude or abrupt but it's just their way, they don't intend to be that way, for example, if they don't hear something you say they just say 'what' which at first I thought was quite rude until someone (a Brazilian) explained to me that's just the way they are, no offence meant. It just seems a shame to leave the country if you haven't tried living enywhere else. Employment is low here too but there are lots of language schools willing to take you, especially if you are a native speaker of English! Good luck.

Brazil: Registration hell in Brazil!:

I am so mad with the Brazilian authorities right now! I married my Brazilian husband in the UK and we live in South Brazil where he is from. We just got our UK marriage certificate recognised here and they have provided us with a document to say our marriage is recognised in Brazil. All that's fine BUT, because UK marriage certificates show the woman's maiden name, not her married name, that is all I can be registered as here. Surely if they are going to recognise and accept certificates from other countries, they should also recognise that other countries do things differently. Just because I don't have a sentence on our marriage certificate to say I want to be known by my husband's surname, I have to use my maiden name. I have written to the registrar back in the UK to see if they can provide a letter or something stating this but I don't think it's something they usually do. So, it looks like I have to be one person in the UK and another person here in Brazil! I am applying for permanent residency here so God only knows which name I can put on my Brazilian id! Sorry, rant over! Has anyone else experienced this?

Brazil: Anyone living in or around Lages?:

Hi. I'm moving to Lages from the UK in May and would love to meet other expats, anyone around?

Brazil: police check for residency:

Hi I'm moving to Brazil soon from the UK too and I'm getting an ACRO certificate from the police. If you go on your local police website and search for it you first have to fill in a Data Protection consent form that you can download from the website. You then have to get a professional person who has known you for at least a year to counter sign It then you take it to your local police station with your passport and a bank statement or something with your address on, pay £10 and they search all their files for any information. Then you get a certificate or report with the results. I just took mine tonight funny enough and they told me It takes up to 40 days to process. Tell them you need It for work purposes because they won't do it just for emigration. Hope this helps.

Brazil: Does marrying a Brazilian give me Brazilian citizenship?:

Can anyone help? I'm from the UK and looking to marry a Brazilian here this year then move straight over to Brazil to settle there. Does marrying a brazilian automatically give me Brazilian citizenship or do I have to apply for it, and do I need a visa to live and work there permanently if I am married to a Brazilian?

Brazil: Southern Brazil:

I'm from the UK and living in Lages in Santa Catarina if anyone is anywhere near here!
