Global Expat Forum: moving to Panama:
Thinking about partially retiring in the mountains of Panama, some where around
Cerro Punta or Bouquete.
We would appreciate any tips about real estate traps etc. We are planing our next trip in Feb./03, and want to do some serious looking at real estate at that time.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give!
Renee
Panama: IS ANYONE OUT THERE!?????????:
Hi Lee,
I read your reply to "Is anyone out there" and want to know more about relocating to the high land, perhaps the volcan area or Boquete. We are visiting again this Feb., so if I could hear from you before then, I'd really appreciate it!
Wev'e heard it's easy to get ripped off on land deals, and not to trust some of the Americans dealing in land there, is this true? Also, how much does it really rain in the rainy season. We live in Portland oregon, so we are used to rain, but still it would be nice if it just rained hard and then the sun came out. Here it can remain gray for months!
We are quiet folks, we like to bird watch and aren't into a lot of night life, but would like some ineraction with other expats and new found Panamaian friends. Are there social clubs in the area or Audubon societies?
My Spanish is better than my husbands, but that's not saying much, but we really didn't have too much trouble getting by last visit.
Any thing in way of tips you can offer would be very welcome.
Thanks,
Renee

Panama: family retiring w/one kid:
Hi Lee,
I was reading your reply to the coupal with one child. My husband and I are considering at least partially retiring to the mountains of Panana Bouquete or Cerro Punta area. We will be visiting again in Feb./03. We are a little leary of being ripped off by real estate agents. We don't want to live in an English enclave as we feel it's important to blend in to the comunity and culture.
Do you know of any good real estate people we can get ahold of? If your friend in Washington state knows of any one we'd also like to hear from him too. We also live in Wa. state and want to be snow birds living in Panama during the winter months. We understand the govt. of Panama is quite liberal about partial retirement.
Any help you can lend Lee, would be very
welcome! While you lived there, what did you miss the most?
Rene
