Italy: Required income for retiring to Italy:
That seems kind of steep, where did you find out about this $8K requirement and is it formal? Official
Italy: Aussie girl looking for employment:
Hi,
I would join IRG - Italian Reflections Group a closed Expat group on Facebook and would take out the word "desperate", don't take it the wrong way but it may scare people. Several members are in the Abruzzi area and one English lawyer lives in Pescara and has small children, not sure if she practices law still but she may be able to help you.
Cheers Dea in Sicily :)
Italy: Wanted: English speaking Friends:
Hi Gazelle,
I just wanted to tell you that you are not alone. I too moved here 7.5 years ago. I live in an even more remote part of Italy than you do, Sicily. Not one friend. They are extremely closed minded, I've been taken advantage of and used innumerable times with their endless litanies of "cortesie" translate this, find me a job, get my daughter an internship and on and on...relelentless. The minute you ask the tiniest of small favours ah no impossibile.. I am tired of it all, and I too am giving up and moving back home. The region I live in is beautiful, clean beaches, lovely parks, great historic ruiins greco roman, baroque churches, none of which I can go to as my husband doesn't go out and I don't dare go alone for all the sexual harrassment I have been victim of since. I am stared at non-stop you'd think that after 7 years it would diminsh...noooo, very limited volunteer opportunities and no yoga. I am an African American woman too and I can't walk 2 blocks without being leered at and approached as though I were a street walker. They are very family oriented, don't care at all about "outsiders" and well The worst part of it has been the extreme ignorance, what do you americans eat.. patatine e wurstel? Hotdogs and fries.. hmmm and worse than that. it's just been miserable. I am also in a difficult relationship, a marriage which is ending. I am going back to the US in early April I am from Virigina but moving to Texas as there's more work. I hear you, feel your pain and just wanted to say that if you need someone online that doesn't just talk about politics you can befriend me, my email is deasmiles@yahoo.com
Blessings D.
ps I have never worked for an Italian company I came here with a defense contractor one of the biggest in the world, got married instead of moving to Kuwait w/my job. Now I work for an Australian food and beverage holding group and work online, remotely supporting their sales and marketing teams in Asia. I just never meshed, tried to, too difficult. I simply live in a bubble and to tell you the truth it suits me fine.
