Dominican Republic: Appreciate info re; can I survive in the D.R on $1000 mo?:

I lived in Santiago mid-2000, and I think you can do it. Not in Santo Domingo thought. That has many tourists in the Colonial District and the Forts from the 1700’s to attract. I paid $125 for a luxury new 3 bedroom apartment. You have to buy your own appliances there. And you have to pay to have the water and electricity turned on, which was about 1,000 pesos each. Never got a bill each month, but a guy came by each month on his scooter to collect the rent. My neighbors were from England and Switzerland. Best, Seth

Dominican Republic: Plan to visit DR again:

Looking to know a few folks before I come this time; and, learning spanish too. How is the cost of living now; and, what does a nice apartment cost these days? I was paying around 5k pesos/month in 2004 for a very nice armed guarded 3 DR then, and a one time fee of about 1k for each of elec/water to be turned on. Never figured that one out. Best, Seth

I lived there and wish to know those that were so good to me when there. I worked in a cafe on the road from down town to the airport which specialized in puerco on the spit… I lived in the house nearby.. Antonio was the owner and such a good man. I lost my contacts returning to the states.
