Global Expat Forum: Living Abroad but Own Home in US - Taxes:

For taxes, what state would you own or buy a home in while you live abroad for 4 to 6 years? I will also earn an income from US companies under 100k via 1099 so I want to keep that as low as possible. I am leaning towards owning in Texas vs. California while I am out . I need help right away as I will need to register a business name as well. Any comparisons of income & taxes (real estate property tax & self-employed income) Thanks

Brazil: How bad is the crime thing, really?:

Yeah regarding Macae, I have a nephew (in-law) who moved from there to regiao dos lagos because crime was so bad. For me, experiences in Rio were many times worse than Sao Paulo go figure and I really appear to look like Brazilians (as in lite coffee skin - mixed race) and about 75% fluent. Some people like tropical hot weather some like all seasons some like mild USA west coast weather (myself) so I really enjoyed Minas and Juiz da Fora in particular. I prefer smaller yet medium sized cities that have all the amenities. You;d never catch me in RJ or SP. although Salvador was great in the mid-90s. Now , I believe there is a lot of crime. Watch their local news and you'll have a better idea of what happens. But overall, very nice & warm people, There's always a few young rebels to spoil it.

Ecuador: Tennis in Ecuador:

You ever move or go down there? I also need a tennis fix but prefer clay in a not so humid climate or hot climate. 33-ish celsius or 90 F in dry west coast weather is preferred.
