Ecuador Welcome Forum: Banos Ecuador:

Here is some infor re: Banos. When I first started looking at Ecuador, I came accross Marco. He was born and raised in Bano. I decided to stay on the coast but I am going to go visit him next spring. I have referred others to him and they say he is very nice. The lodging and food is very inexpensive and very good in Banos, compared to other places (so they tell me). Marco: Well my rates are 10 box per day. Per person. My number is +593996142167 My facebook is Flatshare Baños If you have more questions let me know Cheers Marco

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Flying into GYE with dogs:

The problem is not Ecuador, the challenge comes from the USDA. Each state in the US has its own USDA office. Contact them as soon as possible, do EXACTLY as they say (dot every "i" and cross every "t" .... and promptly follow the timetable). I am from Colorado and the Office in Denver reviewed my paperwork (by fax) before hand, to ensure that there were no unpleasant surprises. Once you get your USDA Certificate, you are 99% home-free. American Airlines is great, also, just be sure to check the AA.com website regarding pet travel, and make a copy, with the date, and have that on hand. By the way, I truely do love, love, love, the Guayaquil Airport! It is very safe, comfortable, and there are people and services readily available to help you with your bags and further travel.

Ecuador Welcome Forum: bus schedule:

WOW! That's a long ride from Quito to Salinas. You can catch a plane (TAME) from Quito to Salinas for less than $100 ($1.00 taxi ride home) . I prefer to fly into the airport in Guayaquil (GYE). The regular bus (from the bus station in Guayaquil) costs $5 to go to Salinas (about 2 hours). There is a private shuttle service called JOHANCAR: Salinas to GUAYAQUIL (to the r/o Ramada INN) 2770358; Movi 0992854551; Porta 0988575836. To make reservations from GUAYAQUIL to SALINAS call: 2302984; Movi 0992854578; Claro 0994640915. The bus stop in Salinas is around the corner from CoCos at the Chippe end of the Malecon. The last time I came from the States (with a lot of baggage) at 2:00 am, I took a taxi arranged by the Taxi group inside the airport right to my door for $80. By the time you pay for a hotel, tips, and transportation to the bus station, you will spend about the same amount of money. My bags were carried by my driver and I was home in my bed, by 4:30 am. I hope this helps.

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Cuenca Heating:

Pertaining to weather, I moved to Salinas in February. Check out our weather. It was in the 70's & 80's for the first couple of months, and for the last several months our daily temperature span has been between 79 - 70 (day/night). I love the weather here in Salina so much No mosquito problem (it was worse when I lived in the States). just sayin' Good Luck on your venture wherever it takes you.

Ecuador: Disaster Capitalism:

It is so sad that this topic has a formal name .... but nobody says it better than Naomi Klein. This video is from 2012 .... believe me, this did not end with the Bush administration. For the most part, I believe that most of the American people are really good hearted people. I do not understand how we select the leaders who "represent" us! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qlAL26bVOzM

Ecuador: Aid from the US government:

icemeister .... you need to read the post again without reading "into it" . do not hold your breath waiting for the u.s. to send money to ecuador, relations are "very strained" between the two governments.

Ecuador Welcome Forum: IESS MEDICALRETIREMENT SIGNUP - help needed:

I am in the Salinas area. I am trying to register online for the IESS benefits. I seem to be caught in a "loop". Can someone give me the referral information for someone who will do this for me, please. or Is there an office location that I can visit to make my application. I have my cedula and an open EC checking account. Thank you

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Visa Documents :Apostilled vs Notarized:

I just arrived here in Ecuador a month ago. I began my 9-1 Retirement Visa Process in the US. I have my cedula, bank account, and I am in the process of working on my driver's license and IESS registration. I will be happy to share my experience (pros and cons). This has proved to be a process that is very confusing at first, but once you complete it ... it all comes together and ... looking back ... it all seems easy to understand, now. My advice to people starting out: 1. Be patient and do not let yourself get overwhelmed - you will not understand it all until afterwards..... I know it is frustrating. 2. The seal of apostille for the documents will come from THE STATE WHERE THE DOCUMENTS WERE ORIGINATED (not always the state where you currently live). In some cases, the documents from the District of Columbia are handled different. 3. Yes, you can do this whole process by yourself, without professional help, however, you may end up bald-headed and batty! In my humble opinion, If you can afford professional help - or- if your sanity and assurance that everything is done correctly is important - be kind to yourself and get professional help. 4. (go to this website and READ IT FOR YOURSELF and continuously refer back to it because it changes regularity) Recent changes are dated 03/01/2016 http://www.ecuador.org/nuevosite/index_e.php (click on CONSULAR SERVICES) Do not depend on others - read and learn about the different Visa Options and ALL the requirements. Then select the one that best suits your situation. 5. Collect your documents (worry about the apostilles later) You will need an original notarized document from the STATE where the document was originated (it may not necessarily be the state that you are residing in at this time) 6. After you have all of your notarized required documents, separate them according to the state of their origin and go to each website of the state's Secretary of State and find the division that handles apostilles and/or authentications. Here you will find the instructions, fees, addresses, and sometimes required forms, so that you will get your "Seal of Apostille" aka: authentication. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apostille_Convention) *** If your documents are from the District of Columbia .... most likely, the Secretary of State (federal) will have made special arrangements with a specific DC government agency to handle each kind of document. Contact the agency that is initiating the document - make sure they know what you are asking for ... hmmmmm! At anytime, do not hesitate to check with your local consulate. In my experience, the Washington DC consulate has ALWAYS given me the correct advise and support ... and even helped correct something that was not done properly by another consulate .... Havier in DC is so special!) NOW IT IS DECISION TIME: 1. Do it yourself when you get to Ecuador or 2. Start your application process from the U.S. using a representative. I chose option #2 (and I would do it the same way if I had it to do over again). I had already visited Ecuador and had most of my papers. The counsulate in DC had prepared my passport and I paid my fees. When I arrived in Guayaquil, the service that I used had a person to pick me up at my hotel and take me to register my visa and obtain the document needed for my cedula. A few days later, The same person took me to apply for my cedula at 9:00am and we returned at 1:00pm the same day and I received my cedula card. Then she took me, that same day, and I opened my checking account in an Ecuadorian Bank. As for doing it yourself ... this is just my humble opinion... If you do not speak Spanish or understand the street address system here is Ecuador ... this can be very frustrating. In my case, I had 2 minor things that came up, but it would have prevented me from getting my papers had it not been immediately identified by the professional. Also, when you go to places to file, sometimes you get numbers, sometimes there are these overhead scheduling boards ..... then you have to go to several lines to register to pay, then to another line to pay, then go someplace else .... I feel that I benefited by having someone with me who allowed me to just sit back and let her handle everything. If I can help anyone, in any way, I will always be here for you. Also, I want to thank Susan and all of her wonderful subscribers for all the continued support that I have received from this forum. I was confronted with several serious challenges along the way .... this forum has always been a major source of encouragement and support for me. I will be forever grateful! Thanks, y'all .... I love my Ex-pat forum family! Sing ..... finally, smiling in Salinas ..... come on down!
