Ecuador: Country Living:

I live in Mindo, elevation 4500' about 2 hours west of Quito on the Andean slope. Mindo is a charming village and has a pop of about 3000, and is popular with folks from Quito and international travelers on the weekends. It is known world wide for its amazing bio diversity of butterflies, birds and orchids and is full of creeks, rivers and waterfalls. The area is chock full of Nature Preserves and is not deforested like the Villacabamba area. I recommend a visit!

Ecuador: Quito Mariscal Sucre Int'l Airport opens Feb 20 9:00 am:

any clue as to how folks will get from said airport to said city center? and if the permits are just being given now for hotels/hostals in the airport area, what are folks supposed to do in the meantime? we travel from central america to quito regularly and wonder how we will navigate the new situation.

Ecuador: There is more Panama than HOT weather:

i checked out panama...all the parts. i found it either boiling hot (can you imagine that the traffic in P.C is WORSE than Quito? but i found bouquete boring, over priced and just not that beautiful. i go for beauty each and every time.

Ecuador: Rural Living in Ecuador:

We chose MINDO...a rural town 2 hours from Quito at 4500' above sea level...temps are 50-85 yr round with a mean temp of 75. Mindo is world renown for it's "birding" and is popular with folks from Quito on the weekends, but still has a small town feel while having a few restaurants, produce stores and hardware stores to choose from. We are situated about 4 miles away from the center of town and love it. A few other expats in the area as well as charming locals. Worth a look!

El Queztal in Mindo makes unsweetened bakers chocolate in small and big rounds. can be grated or melted. super quality!

about ice. did you know it SLOWS down your metabolism? it "ices" your digestive tract. truth! food for thought. about negativity, i agree. while i come to this forum for general info, i have to skim past the complaints and mis-information. the only person i read with interest is susan from ocean hideaway. (thanks susan) but let's be honest, MOST american's LOVE to complain, which is one reason why i left! in ecuador, i hang out with the charming complaint free locals.

we have stay at Hotel Windsor many times. clean, large rooms and located in the heart of everything. ask for room in the back of the hotel away from the street. safe travels!
