Turkey: Jobs in Istanbul:
Hi,
I have been living in Istanbul for several years and I have found it quite difficult to move into anything other than teaching.
I have a good resume with managerial experience in international companies but despite a lot of positive feedback and high hopes in other areas, teaching english as a foreign language has been the only reliable way for me to make a living.
Please dont think I havent made every effort. I have approached several companies directly as well as registering with recruitment agencies but nothing ever materialised. That is not to say its impossible, but I would strongly recommend you having a back up plan and its easy enough to pick up a well recognised TEFL qualification before you come.
In fact I have managed to build my private tuition sideline into a sufficient income on its own, and I have recently started sharing some information and contacts in this area on my blog at www.englishjobsturkey.
There is loads of free useful information there and I post any jobs I hear about as well as any private students I cant handle myself.
I would be happy to pass on any advice to people looking for english teaching jobs in Turkey so please dont hesitate to get in touch.
Regards,
Chris
