Canada: Just moved to Canada from US - need importing advice:
I am an US citizen and recently started a new job in Canada. I plan to be here for a very long time so the first of the year want to move my furniture here so I can make arrangements to rent my Dallas condo. Only brought with me clothes, cats, and house plants without a problem. When you move used household goods into Canada what happens when you declare your audio / video electronics? It would help to hear from others who have moved their household goods into Canada. Thanks

Thailand: 58 year old - move to Thailand?:
I am from the US, male & 52, and a professional (interior designer & university professor). Use to visit Thailand while working in Qatar and fell in love the the people & the country in general. I would love to live there but have found it impossible to find a job that pays anything close to our standards. Of course it is not expensive to live there but I would never be able to afford to travel and would never be able to keep up my expenses in the states. An even larger problem is it appears that once you are past age 40 there are no jobs at all for anyone regardless of home country! Regardless I hope you find a way to move to Thailand as I am sure you will be happy there.
Turkey: Moving from US to Northern Cyprus:
I am from the US and considering accepting a position at a university in Northern Cyprus. My major concern is bringing my pet cats with me. Has anyone had or know of experiences on importing your pets into N. Cyprus. Any comments from people who live or have lived in this region would be helpful regarding any subject. My only other expat experience has been a few years in Qatar. You can post here but I will receive information faster at my E-mail abaucom21@hotmail.com
Thanks,
Al
United Arab Emirates: Trial period and moving pets:
Pets. I worked close to 2 years in Qatar & I am from the US. I have many Arab friends throughout the Gulf States so these experiences are what I am basing my comments on. Had no problem traveling with my pets as long as I stayed clear of the UK. The culture in the Gulf countries do not view pets like we do (members of our families). I found dogs & cats seem to make locals uncomfortable so you can not really let them run around. You shouldn't let your pets be outside much anyway because of the heat. Friends of mine that have dogs have not had a problem with walking them as long as they live in a compound with few or no Arabs in residence. Keep in mind pets adjust so maybe while you are 3 months in the UAE your dog can adjust to being inside the house while staying in the UK. Same for the cats if they are not already full-time house cats. From experience, in 3 months both cats and dogs can adjust to indoor life. I lived in NYC for years and many people have big dogs that do fine living in apartments. Hope this little information helps.
