Panama: Journalist Murdered in David:

While that is true the person who pulled the trigger will still go to jail until it is decided if they were in the right or wrong under what is known as Roman Law both are guilty until proven innocent so don't be fooled just because you feel you were protecting yourself you have still killed someone and there are two sides to every story so it is not as simple as shooting the intruder and stating you were protecting yourself .You will be arrested and it will be investigated.

Panama: shopping:

Hi as James said you picked the right country. My wife is petite and loves shopping here in Panama. Yes you can find all the expensive designer stores in Panama city in Multi Plaza or Allbrook but for the most part clothes and shoes are very inexpensive here.As well for men.$100usd goes a long ways.Have fun and shop at the malls as there is such a huge selection.

Panama: Registered Nursing (RN) Positions In Panama:

My wife has many years experience as a Canadian nurse in the er,or,and for the BC Cancer Agency and she can not work in Panama and the wages are so minor that it would not be worth her while to even consider it understanding that Canadian nurses are ranked number one in the world and are highy sought after. This is not the place to attempt anything like that as you basically must be Panamanian. As well Panama has a huge crime problem which of late is growing by the day

Panama: Working in Panama:

Legally you can not work in Panama until you have received your cedula and then you are required to apply for a work permit.Yes there are lots of people working off the grid so to speak but the chances of making enough to live off are slim.If you are legal that opens the door to many more opportunities.Yes the authorities in Panama do check randomly for work permits usually if someone has tipped them off so to speak.Just be careful. This country is becoming a lot more controlled than some people want to let the newbies know.

Panama: Arraijan-Chorrera:

My question would be why there.Have you ever been there? If you are Panamanian ok but otherwise I would be looking else where for sure.

Panama: Bank account in Panama:

Not sure but Mulit Bank is a good bank to start with and the one that is very good is in Coronado. One week is nothing to wait to have all your documentation checked.Remember you are in Panama and things move slowly here and the more you complain the longer it will take.Your banking reference letters from banks you have dealt with in the past are very important as they will check these directly with that particular bank especially if you are an American.....IRS and all that stuff...it will not happen over night....

Panama: Interest accrual on rental security deposit:

I have to agree that it is highly unlikely anyone in Panama is going to pay you interest on a security deposit. In fact in a lot of cased you are lucky if you get the deposit itself back. That is common place here in Panama. The landlord finds a bunch of small things that oddly enough add up to what your deposit was so I would forget about the minor amount of interest you might have received.Unless of course you could convince a landlord to pay you interest but the odds of that are about the same as dairy cattle flying over New York at midnight during a full moooooon.

Panama: real estate agents:

Sorry but that is absolutely impossible as Panama has gotten so so over priced it is crazy. You now pay more here than you do in Florida including food.Panama is no longer a cheap place to live and invest in.It has become way over priced and climbing but sales are slowing down as people find how pricey it is. Agents here are like sharks and will sell you anything for the biggest price they can draw out of you and not take a second brief.Be very very careful ,use a good lawyer with lots of references, have titles checked and rechecked before you buy, look for old lawsuits on the property and have it proplerly survivored, Trust no one in real estate.

Panama: Dog Health in Panama?:

We brought three dogs from Canada and the worst part was the flight on American. One thing to watch is where you let your dog swim if he/she does. Some of the beaches are so contaminated dogs get a very bad allergic reaction to this waste.Unless you are living somewhere out in the bush most of the normal flea and tick products work fine. One other thing to be very careful of is the frogs here as they are for the most part quite poisonous to dogs and can be fatal.Never let your dog even get near them but toss the frog with a shovel. Lots of very good vets here and most speak English. Panamanians for the most part have no respect for dogs so never let your dog loose on or near a road. If not already done have your dog fixed so to speak. The wild Panamanian dogs or more often than not nice dogs but full of disease and you name it so keep away from them.Check your dog everyday for fleas and ticks as well as ears eyes and check stool once in awhile. They need probably double the water intake they have had in the past ...very important. Lots of people here who have brought dogs.

Panama: Can someone get me a SIM?:

Simply buy one in the airport when you arrive. There are quite a few phone stores in the airport and people do this all the time so you are getting concerned for no reason.Enjoy your stay with us in Panama.
