Ecuador: retiring to EC:
My friend was applying for 9-1 Residency by himself. i asked him why he wanted that ordeal since he didn't speak or read Spanish. He said he was advised by others that it was a piece of cake.
So he put all his documents together, jumped a jet with a round trip ticket and got here to the Immigration window where he learned that the Notary that signed off on his documents had a stamp that included her middle initial BUT when she signed her name she forgot to include the initial.. He spent the return ticket for getting the Notary to re-issue all the docs correctly signed AND had to spend the bucks for ANOTHER Round trip ticket....
The Attorney cost less than the cost of the DO-IT-YOURSELF-WAY..... Doc

Thanks Jack for giving Jorge the heads up on the gripe. There's always 2 sides of the story but, Jorge comes recommended by Susan who is always truthful with her evaluations.

Subject: VOTING
Dear Priscila~ Now that we have our Cedulas,
We have a few questions...
Are we supposed to vote in the upcoming elections?
I am over 65yrs old. Am I still supposed to vote?
Is there a fine to pay if we do not vote?
Where is the voting place and how do we register to vote?
We are asking you because there are so many opinions among the ExPat community.
Please let Nelson and Grace know we asked how they are.
Gracias, Doc&Rene

Dear Doc. St. John,
I talked with the lawyer of the Consejo Nacional Electoral, and he told me that the vote is not required of foreigners even if they already have the cedula or the residence.
Best Regards,
Priscila.
