Italy: Buying a car in Italy:

We just bought a car this summer. We bought from a dealer and he helped us arrange for insurance which we got after we bought the car but before we drove it off the lot. Make sure you shop around for insurance. We got quotes from 3000E for the year down to 480E for 6 months. Something to note about Italian car insurance, if you are going out of the country, you can put your insurance on "pause" while you are away so you are not paying for insurance while you are not using the car. A very useful and cost saving thing to know.

Italy: buying property in Italy:

My husband and I did it last year. It is easy but there are a few things to watch out for. The absolute number one thing is to have a licensed realtor. There are all kind of folks out there who call themselves realtors but are not trained or licensed. Stay away from them. You will know who is licensed because their website will say that they are part of FIAIP.

Italy: italian lost in canada:

Do you have Italian citizenship? If not, do you qualify for it? My husband was born in Ottawa but qualified for Italian citizenship and now has dual citizenship. I'm will be applying for citizenship as his wife in the next year. That is the easiest way to move and live there without the need for special visas. Otherwise, you have to apply for a visa that will allow you to live there. Working in Italy is difficult, unless you have a job waiting for you, as unemployment is really high (25% in the south) compared to Canada. My best advice is to get your citizenship if at all possible. If your parents were born there (even if they gave up their citizenship upon becoming Canadian), you qualify, as long as they are still alive. Best of luck!

Italy: New link for Life in italy blog:

I'm already following it! It looks great. I have a blog about buying a house in Sicily. It is at http://my-sicilian-home.blogspot.ca/.

Italy: Moving to Milan in April.:

And Jolazopa, were you planning on working in Sicily? If you were you might want to do a little research. Sicily's unemployment rate is about 25% currently and that doesn't even include those that are under-employed. So, unless you have a steady income from outside of Italy, you may want to rethink your plans. Sorry you feel you need to leave your country due to Obama's re-election. Personally, as a non-American, I find him to be a breath of fresh air.

Italy: health insurance:

Do you have to be a citizen and a resident or just a citizen?

Italy: Medicines:

It is usually baby aspirin that is prescribed. My father took that for years.

Italy: I want to keep a car in Italy:

My husband and I (Canadian) are trying to figure out if we can buy a car in Sicily. It seems that buying the car is not the issue - it is insuring it. If you are not Italian and not a resident then it is pretty much impossible to get insurance. My husband has dual citizenship and it seems that if he is registered with the AIRE he might be able to get insurance. We are going to have to confirm that when we get there next summer. Hope this is helpful.

Italy: La Bella Figura:

I am thinking about writing a post for my blog about la bella figura but as I am not Italian, it seems rather presumptuous of me to write about something so completely Italian. I know that this is an expat forum but if anyone with more experience in Italy than me (I am a newbie in Sicilia) could you tell me what la bella figura means to you?

Italy: Best Place to Retire in Italy?:

What an amazing place to spend the night! Even though I hate driving in Agrigento, I love the city and the Valley of the Temples.
