Bahamas: Moving companies from Nevada to Bahamas HELP!!!!:

I need HELP! My family is moving from Nevada to Bahamas end of month and we are now running out of time. I need a good, reliable, international moving company that I can call today. We have about 40 boxes (small, medium, and large) and we most are just clothes, linens, toys, and baby necessities. PLEASE HELP~!!

Bahamas: Please Help! - Paying Duty at Customs on household items shipped in:

I am moving from Nevada to Paradise Island with my family (husband, 4 year old, and baby). My husband got a 2 year job out there and they have given him 5k towards moving expenses. I'm having anxiety not knowing what or how much to bring in. I do not want to go over our 5k because we got hit hard on duty at customs. First, can somebody please recommend a good moving/shipping company from the USA. Second, we plan to only bring out clothing (mainly with us via airplane), all my 4 year old's toys, and all our baby items such as crib, playpin, changing table, bath, swing, etc. I read that we won't have to pay duty on all our baby items such as crib, baby bottles, and diapers. Is that true? Regarding my 4 year old's toys, I understand I have to make a list of every item packed in their value. All our stuff is used. Do I have to list every single doll, car, game, etc? Also, read that I don't have to pay duty on books. Is that true? How serious are they at customs? Are they going to go through all my personal belongings? What about the value I put on each item. I plan to put low values since everything is used, including all our baby stuff. Can somebody please tell me about their experience at customs, how much you paid on duty for things you brought in, and any advice on what else I should bring. Kitchenware? Linens? Etc.... THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

Bahamas: Moving to Grand Bahama in 4 weeks!:

Could you please let me know what your experience is after you arrive in terms of what you paid on all your kids toys, etc. I too am having anxiety about that now, however my move is't for another few months. Good luck to you and your family! I think its an exciting move!

Bahamas: Advice needed urgently:

Hello. I thought I might be a little help to you. I don't live in the Bahamas quite yet, but I'm in the middle of moving out there. My husband too got a job, however no Paradise Island. We have a 4 year old and newborn, so the move in itself is overwhelming. Fortunately my husband's job has been a great help in terms of introducing him to a realtor. Check out Bahamasrealty.bs. A realtor from there was able to show my husband around, some great rental spots, as well as schools. The people out there are a great help. I too have been quite overwhelmed by the acts of violence, home break-ins, and the amount of rapes that happen in the Bahamas, but like any other place it's all about knowing your surroundings. I've heard that you don't want to live in Central Bahamas. But of course once again, it all depends on the area you choose. Read my post - Moving to the Bahamas with 2 young kids. I had a great response from someone listing good gated communities all in Nassau. You def want to make sure you and your family are in a safe area, if not gated, with a good security system and shutters on all windows. Another one of my concerns is what to bring out with the move. I'm sure you've done your homework on customs and paying duty on everything you bring in? We plan on only moving with our clothes, toys, and baby items needed. I found a link throughout one of these blogs that supplied a list of the cost on duty for each item. If you PM me and supply me with your email address, I can send you the form that shows how much you pay on all your items you bring in. It's a BIG move, and quite overwhelming, however I keep reminding myself that it is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I wish you the best of luck! And if I find out more helpful information during our move, I will PM you.

Bahamas: Moving to Bahamas with 2 young kids:

My husband's job is relocating him to the Bahamas for a couple of years. I'm a little nervous about such a BIG move because we have a young 4 year old daughter, and a newborn baby. We will be looking to live in either Naussau or on Paradise Island so that my husband can be close to work. Here are a few of my concers after doing some research online. I'm hoping that what I found was mainly from tourists, and people who live in the Bahamas have better soloutions: The price of diapers seem to be almost $20 for a small pack. Is that true? Milk $8, a box of Kellogs Cereal $7, a bottle of wine $20??? There must be local grocery stores that have better prices. What is the average cost for groceries weekly for a family of 4 (baby diapers, formula) What would be considered a good salary for a family of 4 (3+baby) to live on in the Bahamas? School for my 4 year old daugther. She doesn't start Kindergarden for another year, but has been in pre-school for over 2 years now and I want to keep her in something. How are the schools and what are the prices like? Dry Cleaning - is it true it costs almost $17 for a suit for example? I do not iron and my husband would have to get his clothes laundered a lot. Are there several puplic parks and places for me to take my daughter for fun besides the big hotels? Driving - how much to lease a car? Or buy a used car? And what is the cost of gas? Utilities - What is the average cost of household utilities for a family of 4? My husband will be workign a lot. Will I be safe home alone and out and about my with my 2 young children? How should I bring in our move in terms of furniture and baby items (crib, high chair, linens, etc). I don't want to get hit hard at customs. I know we will most likely be renting a furnished home, but I more concerned about all my daughter's toys and baby items. I want to bring all her toys, small table, books so that she doesn't have a hard time adjusting. And I want to know what I should bring in terms of baby stuff so that I don't have a hard time adjusting. Last but def not least, what advice can people give me so that I don't suffer complete culture shock? I'm truly nervous. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH IN ADVANCE! I KNOW I AM ASKING A LOT AND I TRULY APPRECIATE ANY HELP AND ADVICE YOU ALL CAN OFFER.
