Ireland: car from UK to Ireland:

Hi, I bought a car when living in UK and had the unfortunate situation of my car documents (although not the car) stolen from me. Since then everything has expired including the insurance. I am living in continental Europe. I am thinking of moving to Ireland and thinking of trying to use my UK car in Ireland. I wrote the UK embassy for advice on getting papers for the car. Any advice on registering my car in Ireland, especially given the fact that I don't have hard copies of any paperwork (just scanned copies on my computer). Or any advice in general on registering cars from UK in Ireland? Thanks

Estonia: how easy is it for EU passport holder to get first housing, then residence card:

Hi and thank you in advance for reading. I am from Portugal. I have lived in different countries, I have worked as an IT consultant doing something which required a LOT of traveling. I want to settle somewhere stable and hopefully, compared to most places, safe. Estonia seems like it is reasonably well run country. I need good internet, want to open up a local bank account, and I will get my own health insurance. How hard is it to get a local apartment without a residency card or local bank account? Once one has rented housing, do I only need my Portuguese documents, a photo, government fee, and rental contract and go to the police to apply for a residence card? Or is it more complicated than that? I am also interested in expat's experience opening up bank accounts. Thank you.

Paraguay: Moving to PY in late November:

Hi, I found it interesting to read some comments on this thread that internet, at least in the capital, can be good. I was looking online, at sites such as http://www.netindex.com/download/allcountries/ and per my web browsing internet speed in Paraguay is actually well below international averages. I work with internet and this is a big concern...is it possible to get internet that allows for clear skype calls? both video and audio or just video? and also I am wondering what people think about safety in a "good" area of Asuncion is compared to say Chile or Uruguay safety levels? Thanks

Romania: Do any jobs exist for only English speakers in Romania?:

Hi, someone said 7000 lei per month. I used an online money conversion and it is not making any sense. Did the money change from the time of post 2014 to now?

Panama: business opportunities:

Hi, I was wondering what people in this forum think about business opportunities for someone who speaks both Spanish and English fluently who is repatriating to Panama. In particular, but not exclusively, I am interested in hearing about franchises. I have been gathering information about Subway and I understand the whole country is under the control of a couple there. I have tried to get a hold of someone from Dunkin' Donuts and cannot seem to find a working telephone number, and I called corporate and they said they couldn't provide me a number unless I already knew the name of whom I was trying to call. Thanks in advance for any comments.

Panama: Portuguese moving to Panama:

Hi, I am aware of the new program to apply for Panama residency for people with passports of one of 22 "friendly nations". I am a Portuguese citizen and that country is not on the list. I really appreciate anyone who (1) can recommend a program for me - the reforestation program is something I keep hearing about but I want to know if there is any other, better option and (2) can recommend a good immigration attorney reasonably-priced.

Global Expat Forum: Seeking to Relocate from ...:

Hi, There are another post similar to mine and I wanted to start a new thread, mostly because the other post originator seems to want to keep the focus rather specific to their specifics. I wish to relocate from the US (but I am sure a lot of people in a lot of countries can related, particularly in Europe which in my opinion shares a lot of parallels with US). Note I have dual citizenship US/EU. I am very disenchanted with the political/economic situation in the US, where I live, and while it may be true things are not necessarily better in most places, I have been wanted to relocate for many many years now, and I am at a breaking point where I just have to try something else. I went to live for a while in Scandanavia and UK. I would consider living in Scandanavia again, UK I did not like (no offense - I did not like the "system" does not apply to the people), and I just am not convinced Scandanavia is the best choice for me. Part of my challenge is I am looking to change my career, I work in IT. Over the length of my career I have worked with the software of two different software sellers, the first things went pretty well but I switched to the other company to make more money, but I have always disliked the way the new company works with freelancers/independent consultants and now what I am doing doesn't pay that well, so I might as well switch back to working with the prior software company and others like it (I am thinking of trying to develop my skills with Microsoft and/or Salesforce and/or maybe Oracle technologies and market myself for those opportunities). But before I do the switch with work, I really want to get setup somewhere else. I like Costa Rica, and have been there a long time ago. Panama interests me. I have a European passport but so much of Europe seems just as bad as US with the exception of some of the really small countries and some of the Eastern European former Soviet block countries. I can't see myself in Africa and most of Asia, even though I have traveled there, though what I read about Singapore impresses me and about Mongolia interests me. None of my family or friends want to talk about any of this, and this is a very hard process to be in. If anyone relates, whether or not they live in US and whether or not in IT, it will be helpful to read what you have to say. PS I am particularly interested in people who has relocated themselves more so than people who work for large companies that their companies move them, not that I can't learn from the experience of those people, but relocating oneself without being employed by a multi-national is to me harder. Please note I am very entrepreneurial in nature, and that is impacting my decision process a lot. Thanks

Costa Rica: future expat / help regarding pensionado program and internet in Costa Rica:

Hi, I am seriously considering expating to Costa Rica and have a few questions and hope to obtain any help and info on the following and thanks in advance for any input! I plan on working from home, but I seem to qualify for the pensionado program too. What is the best path towards residency? Should I apply for residency myself or use some company's help and what is the best company to deal with for help getting residency (low-cost and good service). What are the best areas to live if ability to travel outside of Costa Rica, internet access, and safety are high priorities for me? How do I, once I get to Costa Rica, arrange for top-quality internet (cost is of secondary importance to quality of connection). Thanks! John

Estonia: Help in moving to Esstonia with 3 kids wanted:

Hi I went to http://www.politsei.ee/en/ It says "An EU citizen shall obtain the right of residence upon registration of his/her place of residence located in Estonia in the population register of Estonia." I am a citizen of EU and want to live in a more stable and hopefully secure country than my home country. I have saved some money from my career the last 15 years as an IT consultant which required a lot of travel, and I want to retrain myself to do more work internet-based from home which won't pay as well but I am looking to not have to be required to travel always for work. It seems like if I just go there, rent an apartment, I should be able to go to the police and get an id card. Is it really that easy? or am I unaware of the reality. I want to get a place, order internet for where I am living, open up a local bank account, basic requirements. Thanks
