Saudi Arabia: Health care-hospitals:
I found the health care system in Saudi to be incredible.
Last year I was diagnosed with breast cancer - a few months after arriving from the states.
I decided to stay in Saudi to receive my treatment. Honestly, I was better cared for in Saudi than any hospital experience I've had in the states.
I am located in Jeddah, but I've heard the hospitals in Rihadh are even better. You and your family will be fine. And it's true - medication is easily accessible as well as significantly less expensive than in America.
Saudi Arabia: American School of Jeddah:
Hi.
I have a few friends who teach at the American School, and through them I've met other faculty.
They're all happy with their jobs / the school. And some have stayed in Saudi for several years.
Whether or not you chose to take a position at a school in Saudi is based on a few things 1. Are you willing to leave the states and accept a new/different way of life? 2. Are you up for adventure - having a new experience, which is foreign to most Americans? 3. Does the opportunity of saving money and traveling around this part of the world seem appealing to you?
As for the question about compound life.... Compounds are somewhat like American subdivisions or apartment complexes. All very in size and aesthetics. Most of the expat faculty from the American School live at a compound called Saudi City. This compound is massive. Literally a city within a city. There are several pools, tennis courts, shops, etc. It's nice because as a woman you'll have space to go for a long walk, run, or bike ride.
I'm sure you can connect with any of the faculty at the American School. They'll be happy to chat with you. Definitely check it out and be open.
Best,
s
