Nicaragua: U. S. Extends Property Waiver:
Thanks for the info!
This shall highlight my ignorance but is this a good or a bad thing for us expats/potential expats?
Thanks,
Tracie
Panama: Accessing Social Security Funds:
I also receive SS death benefits from my late husband and intend to keep my bank accounts in the USA and use ATMs.
My current bank, Wells Fargo, charges for international ATM withdrawals so I researched and found CHARLES SCHWAB bank does NOT with certain accounts!
I opened both a brokerage and a checking account with them, NO FEES, no minimum balance in the checking and FREE ATM withdrawals anywhere on the planet.
Their customer service has been stellar thus far, much better than Wells Fargo. I am loving them.

Panama: Maintaining a US legal address:
I thought about this as I won't be bringing ny vehicle and want to keep it registered here in the states.
In my case, I am going to switch my address on bank accounts (USA banks), driver's license and car reg to my adult daughter's address, thus maintaining a USA address.
But if I apply for residency in whatever country I end up, this may no longer be viable.
Until I do, which shall likely be a year or more after beginning the exploratory trips, I figure this is easiest.

Nicaragua: Nicaragua vs. Panama:
Hi all, I posted a thread on the Panama forum entitiled the same, as with the "waiver" stuff I figure I ought to check out Panama as an alternative.
I got replies that implied Americans aren't well liked in Nica and it is unsafe, and one that said cost of living is cheaper in Panama than USA but not by much!
Of course this is contrary to what I've been reading from the Nica dwellers...thoughts?
Many thanks,
Tracie
Panama: Panama vs. Nicaragua:
Hello all,
I am a 48 y/o widowed mother with two kids still at home who is considering relocation to Nicaragua; my house is currently for sale and as soon as it sells I shall head there.
I've been posting on the Nica forum and was pretty psyched as were two pals of mine who are also retiring and we want to go together. We have been hearing things now about political nonsense between USA and Nica that is giving me pause and turning my focus to Panama.
My question: COST OF LIVING versus Nica?
Mainly rental housing costs?
Grateful for all replies,
Tracie and children
Nicaragua: US Cancellation of Property waiver:
Oh my goodness, what is this about?
What waiver?
I'm so unaware of global events, is this a scary thing?
Worried,

Nicaragua: skating rinks?:
Hello again all,
My 12 y/o wants me to ask if there is a skating rink in Granada? She's an avid rink skater.
Any other things for teens to do?
Many thanks!

Nicaragua: Granada vs Leon:
Hello all,
Now we are looking at Leon as well as Granada.
Anyone with input as to why one would be preferable over the other?
We don't care about nightlife. The considerations are cost of housing, safety, expat presence, conveniences and ease of getting around.
Many thanks in advance to any who reply.

Nicaragua: What's fun to do in Granada?:
Hey now, Angel you Mexican, I didn't say I wouldn't group shower with YOU and Maricarmen!
Just not straightaway with strangers. My back hair might scare them until they get to know and love me.

Nicaragua: Hot Water/showers a rarity???:
Hi all,
I have just read in several traveler's blogs that HOT WATER for showers is NOT readily available in Nicaragua?
Surely this cannot be true.
Darrell? Anyone? I am...stunned.
I lived 22 years in Palm Beach and spent much time in Key West and it's quite hot down there but I still needed hot water to have a warm if not hot shower. Who can shower in cold water?
I'm freaking out a bit with this new piece of data...
