Costa Rica: Moving to costa rica:
We moved to the beach area in Gunacaste with our 4 boys and love it! Very peaceful without the stress and violent crime to worry about near the city. They go to The Country Day School Gusnacaste, an American Accredited School. My oldest actually graduated this year. Next year I will have one in elementary, middle and high school. We are VERY happy and they love it here. :)
Costa Rica: Fun beach vacations:
Tamarindo
Costa Rica: moving with multiple pets:
I live in Guanacaste and it is common here. However, as long as you are diligent with your tick meds (I use Frontline Plus) and know the early signs, your dog will be fine. I have a 2 yr old boxer from the states and she never had an issue. Had a few friends whose dogs got it, but caught it early, dogs were treated and they are fine. It is almost like a West Nile virus type of thing. I really don't give it a second thought. :)
Costa Rica: moving to CR:
We moved here last July with our 4 kids. As you can imagine, round trip tickets were going to be super expensive and we also couldn't risk it knowing if they did question us, we would have to buy a one way at the airport which would be even more. After spending a whole day on the phone with call centers in INDIA... :(.... My husband and I decided to actually drive to the airport and ask the ticket counter workers what to do. They told us that they just had people the prior week fly to costa rica on a one way ticket and that they accepted an eticket from tica bus as their costa rica exit proof. SO.... I went on tica bus online and bought 6 bus tickets for about a week before our 90 days was going to be up. The airlines accepted our printed tickets and we were on our way. We flew United/Continental. I hope this helps.....
Costa Rica: Starting a Business in CR:
We just started our business in November. It is not that difficult if you hire an attorney to help you. There are some tricky laws to comply with. Our attorney made everything easy. I applied for residency, but will not have my permanent residency for a LONG time, so cannot "work" at my business. We have hired citizens with all of their paperwork to work for us. PM me if you have any questions. :) Good Luck!
Costa Rica: Nurses in Costa Rica:
We just moved here with our 4 boys last year. We live in Guanacaste. The most important thing for us was to be near school for them. We could homeschool, but wanted them to have some sort of sense of normalcy going to a new country. We started our residency applications before we left the US. Our attorney tells us 8 months, but I haven't spoken to anyone who has gotten residency in under a year. You still cannot work with residency. You need citizenship which takes another 3 years AFTER you obtain your residency. We started a business here and I am not allowed to work it. I have hired a Tica to work with me. I am present at the store, but she must be here and wait on customers. You could do it yourself, but you face hefty fines if you are caught. Not worth the risk. I would suggest you try to find some American based companies that can get you a work visa if you are not able to start your own business. Good Luck!
Costa Rica: Can I find Brown Rice in Jaco?:
yes, but the seasonings the locals use here are TERRIBLE.... BHT, sodium benzate, msg in everything.... :( This is what I meant when I said we have conceded. I mostly cook at home, but when we go out, I just say a prayer and deal.... ;D not complaining, just a fact to deal with. Don't mean to bumm out your visit.... just don't come obsessed about what is in the food like I did... ;D
Costa Rica: Cabinas in Potrero:
There are a whole bunch right here in Brasilito which is right next to Flamingo and Potrero. Brasilito Hotel is very nice and is on the beach.
Costa Rica: Business Listings:
Bizbuysell.com is good. Local word of mouth is the best. Everyone knows who is selling or going out of business before the owners even discuss listings. :) at least that is how the beach rolls.
Costa Rica: Our Move experience thus far (Dog Owners):
We used United for our Boxer in July and had an AMAZING experience!! :)
