Laos: thinking of moving there:

Hi agypsyquokka. The only way to get a long term visa is working for a company there, or participating on a volunteering program through an ngo. Three years ago when I lived there I heard that contacting the right people you could "pay" a company to get you a business visa. about 600 USD/1 year. I have no idea about retiree visas or any web site with info. Try the nearst Lao embassy. I hope this helps.

Japan: Homestay in Tokyo:

I'm a graphic designer from Spain and I lived for several years in Los Angeles, California. I'm interested in going to Japan this coming summer. I'm looking for a homestay with a Japanese family. If you could give me any information on homestays in Japan o direct me to where I could get information I would greatly appreciate it. Juan

Laos: Moving during rainy season:

I'm studying the possibility of moving to Laos. I have a job offer there, and as you can imaging any tip is welcome. My main concern is about the coming rainy season. Is it raining non stop for 5 months? What people do for entertainment? Do they just stay home? I guess I don't want to find myself in a situation where it's raining all day long, and the only thing to do is to stay home. Also, Is there an specific area of town where all the expats live? How much could be a one bedroom apartment there? Is it in Vientiane or outside? Would you recommend getting an apartment in the downtown area, since it may be a more lively there? Finally, Have you heard of any SARS case in Laos? Thank you very much for any advise.

I'm studying the possibility of moving to Laos this coming May. I have a job offer over there and as you can imaging any tips are welcome. My main concern is about the coming rainy season. Is it raining non stop for 5 months? What people do for entertainment? How do you get around in Vientiane? Do people just stay home? I guess I don't want to find myself in a situation where it's raining all day long, and the only thing to do is to stay home. Also, Is there an specific area of town where all the expats live? How much could be a one bedroom apartment there? Is it in Vientiane or outside? Would you recommend getting a apartment in the downtown, since it may be a more lively area? Finally, Have you heard of any SARS case in Laos? Thank you very much in advance for any information.
