Panama: Busito "pirata"; need tips/advice from those who've been there....:

Hello fellow Brit! Someone else was asking about a similar topic recently... Think you are over brave! Not sure how those things make a living... they charge next to nothing... by the time you have paid for fuel, driver salary, insurance and wear and tear, not to mention the odd accident, I can't imagine there would be any profit?

Panama: Thinking of Gorgona:

Hi there When we first checked Panama out a few years back we thought Gorgona would be great, local to Coronado where all the shops, restaurants, doctors, banks etc. Were but cheaper and it had an International School! People scared us off and said it was 'dangerous' 'ghetto' and a ton of negative things... What I now know is that yes, there are some very poor areas, but Gorgona is up and coming, new projects and being built, predominantly condos, and more Ex Pats are moving there... However, our son went to the International school there and as much as he loved it, he fell behind so much over the course of the year, we moved him and along with lots of other kids from that school, he now goes to Five Stars Academy in Santa Clara and he is doing really well. Someone mentioned Bijao... that is nearer to Santa Clara but pretty expensive... There is also another International school in Coronado too. Best you come and check out the schools and the areas first, despite being in Real Estate here I always suggest renting first, and moving areas to get a real feel for where you could end up... we thought we wanted to live on the beach but realised it was way too hot so ended up building our own home on the road to El Valle (funnily enough there are quite a few families close to us that all go to the same school and we car pool) Check out my stories... I currently post on a website called best places in the world to retire... Good Luck!

Panama: dogs in panama:

Hi I have taken in 6 rescue dogs since we arrived 2 years ago and rehomed plenty! There are lots of people here who do just that and lots of us that volunteer and help out at the various groups such as Spay the Strays and other similar groups. There are usually strays at the beaches as well as everywhere else but I have never come across a pack of aggressive strays on the beach! The most populated beaches such as Gorgona/Coronado/El Palmar tend to have already dealt with the issue of packs of dogs. It is really hard when you see poor starving animals walking the roads and often dogs hit by cars and just left in the road. There are people I know that even collect leftovers from local restaurants and go and feed their local strays, build up their trust and eventually rescue and re home them...so there are lots of ways to help the situation here...

Panama: English Mobile Needs Unlocking:

Hiya If you get your iphone unlocked it will revert back to it's original settings as soon as there is an update. You may be better buying a cheap smart phone here?

Panama: drivers permit and vehicle tags:

Hi As long as you have applied for your visa, even while you have a temporary visa you can get a Panamanian license... the only down side is that you have to renew it once you get your permanent residency...

Panama Road Runner 6886 0603 Panamaroadrunner@gmail.com They have drivers in the city... might cost more but they are reliable, professional, multi lingual depending on needs and have proper insurance! Lx

Panama: Coronado Bay Condo:

Hi there I am a Realtor in Coronado and even I would urge you to rent before buying! There are so many choices here and unless you have lived and looked around you could get stuck somewhere you hate. I advise people to do 3- 6 month rentals in different locations so you can get a feel for the different areas... Feel free to check out my blogs on www.bestplacesintheworldtoretire Regards Lorna
