We were in Salinas in March 2013 and I used my unlocked iphone 3. Got a Sim Card at Clario In the Paseo and bought time for the card at the farmacia next door. It worked great. Put my original sim card back in upon return the the States. No problems!!

If you found a round trip ticket for $600, you were very fortuneate. All airline tickets are not created the same. Research as to when to buy and where to buy can save you money. Check prices on your computer, then check the same companies on a friends computer that never travels. They will have a different IPE address. You will be amazed at the difference.

You can get fod poisoning anywhere in the world. Including the U.S. While in Ecuador, we ate everywhere. including street vendors and restuarants. On our trip from Salinas to Cuenca, my wife developed some stomach issues. We are not sure if it was caused by change in altitude or something she ate. Our host at Casa Ordonez went to a farmacia and got her an antibiotic and within a couple of days, she was fine. We ate ceviche in the streets of Montinita several times. It was delicious!! Almuerzos in Salinas and Cuenca was unbelievable! Enjoy Ecuador! If you need a tremendous place to stay, check out Casa Ordonez, they know how to take care of you!!

Oh, I think you will find more nay sayers here. Most comments are negative, but that is the nature of most Americans. Their government has taken advantage of them for so many years, that is all they know. I haven't heard the reasons being the Mercadoes and all that good fresh fruits and veggies, chicken that actually tastes like farm fresh chicken. In Ecuador, you find a Socialist government that is ran by a man that is actually in charge. Sure, prices are higher in Ecuador than they were several years ago. Now, where is that any different. A friend of mine is a doctor in the U.S. and he said he could offer a office visit for $25.00 if he did not have to jump through so many government hoops and pay ridiculous malpractice insurance premiums. There are no 100 degree Summers or zero degree winters on the equator! Oh, I could go on and on for reasons I would want to live in a place like this. If you are really curious, come down and find out for yourself. And, by the way, it is not for everyone, but what is?
