Some Forum Posts:

Nicaragua: relocation evaluation:

Hi dollyd, My wife and I are looking more to buying and living onboard a boat with possibly buying a place on land for occasional living. Are the corn islands friendly to cruisers that you know of?

Nicaragua: Banks in Managua:

If you have an interest paying account do the Nic banks report that to the US IRS?

Nicaragua: Cash:

Most responders you got are very experienced Nicaraqua residents and are a bit incredulous at your very expensive choice. I bet any one of them could give you a cheaper, nicer choice that accepts plastic. Not like you can't back out of the choice you already have. Doubt they accepted a credit card deposit...

Nicaragua: Seeking Work:

Absolutely correct from my point of view as well. You get to know who is providing useful info vs those who at most provide entertainment. I have read much of value that I believe will let me go to Nicaragua with a good chance of avoiding pitfalls that I might have encountered without their posts.

Nicaragua: Nicaragua driving vehicle:

I believe it is KeyWestPirate who has done a lot of overland travel bringing Tractor-Trailer rigs with commercial contents into Nicaragua. I think he has also offered to set up caravans as well. He and others like him create exceptionally informative posts that I believe will keep future newcomers like myself out of trouble. Although I want to spend most of my time on a live-aboard I also want to buy mountain property and a coastal one and establish residency first and driving in sounds like my best route. The type of posts here sure help.

Nicaragua: Caribbean Side?:

I am also interested in the Caribbean side as we will be arriving via our own live aboard boat, so sparse roads and resources will not impact us as much as it will for someone arriving there overland. Our "dingy" will be a small landing craft, so any beach will do.

Nicaragua: A/C repair:

Hi JamesA, will have to keep tabs on you if you do. I should be in Nicaragua in about 18 months myself. The trade you are in is a good one. I was trained in the basics as a union pipefitter/welder and always enjoyed it. I believe a growing country will always need HVAC skills, but have not been to Nicaragua yet. MagicJack seems to be a great fountain of knowledge as he has lived there awhile with his feet on the ground without his head being in the clouds.

Nicaragua: Private Aircraft:

I searched the forum and did not find the topic on bringing in a private aircraft. Anyone know if that is ok? Is there a mile of red tape? Horrendous restrictions, etc.?

Nicaragua: Rentista or Retiree Visa:

That is something my wife and I will need to look into when we get moved there. I keep hearing many pro's and cons about purchasing or starting a co. Is there any any issues about establishing residency before investing certain amounts? Would I gain more residency by investing more? $200K USD instead of say $30K?

Nicaragua: Visiting Esteli, Nicaragua in April 2015:

WAGSA in disguise :-)
