China: Moving to QingDao - China in September !! Any Friends Out There:

Hi, I've lived in Qingdao almost two years. I am familiar with much of the coast line areas from Mount Lao to Golden Beach, some main bus routes and some of the shopping, market, and many dining places, including Taidong. I live in Maidao. If I can help with anything, I would be happy to try. 1423924715@qq.com Best Regards, Bob

China: 20 yr old Black American Girl in Shanghai- Need Help?:

The information you've been given is not accurate from my experience of living in China for several years. Male or female, you may be the object of curiosity but I have been called laowai, which I am, but never been the object of scorn or abuse. I visit Shaghai several times a year from my residence in Qingdao (which is about the same size as Chicago) and have only pleasant experiences to report. I find that people who have never even been here often try to tell me what it's like and have only the US media biases as a guide. Good luck.

China: Lao Ya vs Lao Wai?:

I never thought lao wai had a negative connotation, it's a descriptive term for exactly what we are, foreigners. I have several Chinese English teacher friends and they seem puzzled that western people seem offended by lao wai and on several occasions, I have been questioned by them about this. There is another term for foreigner that is offensive but it's not lao wai, now I will admit that for some elderly persons, there is some resentment toward all foreigners.

China: New Chinese/US Visa Regs:

Call or go online to ABriggs.com, they're the visa agency the government uses and they can answer your questions accurately and get visas quickly. The 60 day thing, as far as I know, is required when you don't provide a complete ininerary for your visit, but call A Briggs, they have offices in DC, Houston, Charlotte, LA, and others. Their website can give you the embassy your visa will be processed at.

China: China divorce:

Hi, hope I'm not too late to help. If she is in China, a Chinese divorce between agreeing partners can be accomplished at City Hall quickly and cheaply with no lawyer. All you need is to sign forms and have your picture taken, you'll get a little red book that documents the divorce. You do not have to be married to stay in China, all you do is get sequential one year tourist visas and provide an address which can be a hotel until you make other arrangements. Divorces are free in Qingdao, and cheap everywhere. You will need your wedding license and should get it notarized by your embassy in Australia or the Australian embassy in China.

Panama: Info Requested- apartments:

retiring to Panama November 2012. Any apartment info appreciated, like to spend less than $300 a month, no need to be downtown, prefer rural area with easy access to PC. Efficiency or 1 bedroom OK.

China: I have been cheated in nanning by a hired translator:

Almost all Chinese lady listings originate with a marriage agent. The agents employ translators and there is a great difference in the honesty level from one marriage agency to another. It is a good idea to ask for video call to see if your lady is real or if she even knows of your interest. On the other hand, some agencies call your lady and translate your letter and reply with your lady's message. The marriage agencies don't want you to communicate directly because they expect you to try to avoid paying the introduction fee which is income for them. I am an American living in Qingdao. I have some experience in these matters and actually know a legitimate marriage agency, here. I also know of one that is far less than honest. Good Luck and don't lose faith in Chinese people, they are mostly honest, friendly people.
