Ecuador: Ham Radio:

The US and most European countries have ended Shortwave broadcasts to S. America and concentratre on Asia and Africa. There is a Ecuadorian ham net on 7060 or 7070 in the evenings at 7 PM. I agree it would be good to have a freqor net for expat hams where we could meet. Using 40 meters and low dipoles for NVIS should give good local coverage. Here in the Bahia area there are several hams, all non active, and one Ecuadorian ham semi active. Dr Don W4BWS

Ecuador: Questions about the price of rent.:

booby is correct in no monocausal reasons for the price increases. However this is what happens in a free market society. Greed and a fast buck are seen as opportunities for Ecuadorians as well as expat carpetbaggers. Yes the returning Ecuadorians are demanding higher quality and services they are used to and formerly unavailable or of low quality in Ecuador. Hopefully the market will stabilize as the world economics force everyone to buy more wisely. As to the comments by serobi6262, people who do not belong in Ecuador are the fast buck artists who come , buy cheap and sell high. Also the folks who want to have life here as it was at home. Only folks with a open mind and willingness to adapt to the society will find Ecuador happiness. I have seen several nice filks give up quickly and return home or to some other far place due to the daily frustrations and living conditions in Ecuador. Those who adapt stay and enjoy the freedom, great nutritious, fresh food and relaxed, reduced stress life style, from the US, which Ecuador can provide. All adventurers welcome. Dr Don .
