Colombia: Plantra Fasiitis Treatment in Colombia:
I know a good physical therapist in Bogota.
Colombia: MEDELLIN: Neighborhoods/short-term rentals:
Good morning, Medellin neighbors. I currently live in San Andres Isla and am planning to move to the continent. I will be in Medellin for a week beginning 16 Sep and am interested in advice, opinions, etc. about a good neighborhood to rent an apartment or AirBnB room.
Is there anyone "out there" to provide some advice? I know that El Poblado is desirable, but find the prices to be even higher than Bogota...any suggestions?
I've heard mention of Laurales, but my Colombian friend in Medellin says he's not to sure about security issues there. I would welcome any and all ideas. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
Colombia: Armenia:
Hey, Phillip. Thanks for the thorough evaluation of Armenia - really helps a lot to get a good impression of what the place is like, and why you didn't like it. Very helpful.
Colombia: Shipping Us to Colombia:
Just use USABox in Miami. You might save a few cents elsewhere, but their years of experience and their efficiency work. You'll receive your stuff via DHL, Deprisa, Aviature or whoever works in your area. Don't waste time researching other shippers, or wring your hands over in-country security...USABox works well for me.
Colombia: Does TP10 get revoked if I leave Colombia for more than a certain amount of time?:
Thanks, Bick! I was looking all over the Migracion website and having trouble finding what I need. This should do the trick. How long does it usually take to complete the process? My current visa expires 19 September - do you see any problems?
Colombia: Amazon.com shipping to Colombia:
My experience with shipping is through USABox in Miami, or Amazon Global; I find that shipping is not that expensive but the IVA jacks up totals a great deal. USABox screens for things that can't be sent, so you can communicate with them directly; when things arrive, it's with DHL. I do not that vitamins and food-stuffs are prohibited. You can set up a personal box/address with USABox, and they will collect all your mail/packages, no charge until they ship, and only for actual shipping charges. (I think I got USABox info from you, Dave.)
Colombia: Side trip to Providencia Island:
I live in San Andres, and actually prefer Providence. But it is far too nice and quiet to spend only one day there. You could get in and out in one day, but why? In any case, tourism is innundating SAI, and lots of folks try to divert to Providence, so buy your tickets in advance.. My wife's family has a small BnB in SAI, and I always recommend that guests looking for side-trips to Providence spend 2 or 3 nights so as to enjoy the peace and quiet. SAI can be kind of a s**t-hole.
Colombia: Pernament residency:
OK, a question about obtaining a Residency Visa after being in the country 3 years on a Spouse Visa: Has anyone done this and, if so, would you share the wording of you spouse's letter requesting that you be granted the Residency Visa. I've heard the wording of that letter is important, Thanks.
Colombia: San Andres Island vacation advice:
San Andres Isla has become over-run by tourists, mostly staying in the Decameron all-inclusive places; the roads are clogged with scooters and Kawasaki Mules.
The island's infrastructure is crumbling, street traffic is chaotic due to congestion, small spaces and high-speed recklessness.
The sea surrounding the island is exquisite, although your will see garbage on the bottom (from careless tourists) if you swim off the beaches.
In other words don't expect Jamaica or Cayman 0r The Bahamas.
Things to do: day-trip to Johnny Cay, although it may be closed due to recent excessive tourism.
The Haines Cay portion of the Aquario day trip.
The Jardin Botanico, with personal guide.
A two- or three-night side-trip to Providence - much nicer than San Andres and far, far fewer people.
The so-called "sights" - Hoyo Soplador, Cueva de Morgan and Pueblito Isleno - all tacky and not worth your time,
An excellent little hotel (3 rooms) is Capi's Place (see Facebook for pix; listed on AirBnB or Booking, com. Family-run, huge property across Circunvalar from the sea, 15-minute walk to the beach, 20-min to town; quiet, great swimming pool and kiosk for cookouts. If Capi's is booked, a smaller place run by a very nice young woman is Colores de Paraiso (these are in the "better" neighborhood of Sarie Bay).
Otherwise, you have to go with the Decameron toads, or find another posada - not sure how to reach them.
Food is somewhat limited; plenty of comida tipica - fish (fried, fried, fried) - pollo asado, etc. La Regatta (expensive, reservations), Miss Celia's (upscale island food), Islander Restaurant @ Islander Hotel (great view and drinks), Crunch Pizza, Mr. Pannino's, Sandwich Q-bano, Subway.
Colombia: How to watch new release movies?:
BJM, I signed up for the 14-day trial, and configured my settings, but how do I actually watch? I went to the HULU website, but they want me to sign up; I don't understand how to actually watch throught GETFLIX. Thanks.
