Ecuador: Weather or not ?:

My wife and I just got back from spending a bout 9 days in Quito and Cuenca. My wife insisted on watching the weather channel everyday weeks before our trip. The weather forecast was getting her paranoid since it showed torrential rains, lightning and thunderstorms everyday with roads being washed out. We arrived March 31 and left Ecuador April 9 and only one afternoon that had a short spritz of rain and that was it. I have learned in traveling especially in places where the weather is unpredictable that a vacation is still a vacation and the weather is what it is. Just enjoy.

Japan: Need help in how to collect money from a Osaka company:

Can anyone in the forum please tell me any methods for collecting on a debt owed by a Japanese Company who offered to refund money on an item purchased, but after being returned has kept the item and all the money paid. I know in the U.S. we have a few ways to pursue this. We have the Better Business Bureau, Chamber of Commerce, Small Claims Court, Lawyers, and a lot of social media groups that can spread the word. I have always dealt with very honorable Japanese business people and I am very upset that this company has betrayed that trust. All suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Bahamas: Building my own home:

I do not know how the Bahamas work, but one thing you may want to consider is how the inspection snd permit process works. I wanted to build in the Dominican Republic, but found out that to get permits and inspections can take months and years unless you know who's pocket to line which will speed things up to only weeks. The local builder will still make payoffs, but he knows who and what to pay since it may be his own relative. It may or may not be the same in the Bahamas, but you may want to take that into consideration.

Ecuador: Asian food:

Even though my wife and I will want to try a lot of local foods, I wanted to know if Cuenca and Quito have any good Chinese, Japanese (Sushi) or Thai restaurants? Is it safe to eat the Sushi in Ecuador? Are there any Asian Supermarket or supply stores?

Ecuador: Gifts:

When my wife and I come to Ecuador in March/April we try to bring inexpensive items that can be used as favors for people who are especially kind and helpful to us. These items are usually something that can be purchased at the dollar store in the states. When we went to Thailand the native tribes appreciated pens, pencils, notebooks, tooth brushes, candy bars (maybe before the toothbrush), cheap sunglasses, cheap pocket knives, Team hats and shirts, etc. By handing these out you would not only help the locals get something they can not normally find or afford, but you also get amazing smiles from the kids and a good friend. Can anyone provide me with ideas of items that are inexpensive, but can make great favor gifts to hand out as a token of appreciation?

Ecuador: Touring Quito and Cuenca:

My wife and I will be coming to Ecuador for our first time at the end of March/beginning of April and will be spending about 5 days in Quito and 5 days in Cuenca (including the surrounding area). We would love to find a way to meet with some individuals with an interest in promoting Ecuador to my wife and I who are in our 60's (no zip lines or parasailing into an active volcano). We are bird watchers, nature lovers, photographers that love beautiful scenery and we love to eat. If we could find someone with like interests that we could cover their expenses and would be willing to give a personal view of these cities would be ideal. We would even be interested in some land day tour packages to show us the highlights of the country. We usually do not like these since there is alway an ulterior motive where they take you to places that are touristy and the tour operator gets a kickback. We much prefer seeing the real people. Please provide some suggestions.

Ecuador: Residency requirements increasing?:

I am trying to enjoy this forum and learn more about Ecuador. Instead of getting useful information it the forum starts turning into a bashing session. Whoever overseas this forum should root out those who do not stick to the subject at hand. If someone wants to make nasty comments and someone else wants to counter they should either get their own forum or put on some boxing gloves and duke it out in a boxing ring.

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Coming to Ecuador for the first time:

Thanks to everyone who has responded so far. We are very excited to see why a lot of people love Ecuador. I know that if we like what we see on our one week trip i am sure that we will come back for a month or more. keep us in mind if anyone can think of other suggestions (good local restaurants, sites, etc.) Thanks again
