Philippines: TV, surround system:
Olyx.Ph or Ayos Dito.com
Philippines: Water Heater & washing machine:
Bought a Sharp 8.5 Kg capacity washing machine from Lazada (17,000 Php) two years ago - still running like new. It has an air spin dry feature; just hang your clothes for a few hours & it's dry. Free shipping & COD. The trick is don't let a lot of your household members use or operate your appliances. Usually that's were the problem starts - improper operation of the appliances (TV, stereo, microwave, washing machine, etc....). I think Whirlpool is now made in China and Sharp is mostly made in the Philippines. Sorry, I don't use water heater in my shower - it's usually hot & humid in PI most of the time.
Philippines: Real estate agent:
Be careful of those "Real Estate agents". There was a recent news here were a young Chinese national who bought a unit in the 13th floor of a condo from a real estate agent only to find out later (after paying a large amount of money) that the condo only has 12 floors.
Philippines: Filipina wife of 20 years dies:
Spruik Yep, that's the ultimate bluff - bulldoze the house. I bet the brothers & sisters will freak out. What can they do with the land w/out the house? Lease it? Yeah right. Good luck with that. Play their game bro. As long as you have a back up plan & $$$. Get a real estate lawyer who won't rip you off.
Philippines: any advices on driving!:
It's workable. It's just a matter of getting used to the stressful driving conditions for about a year or so. City driving here is crazy; but you can either adapt or reject the driving mentality of Filipinos. I would recommend the former option. Courtesy in driving here is minimal, it's cut-throat driving here. But I think you'll be okay. If you'll be driving inside SBMA (Subic Bay), it's western style of driving there - traffic rules are strictly enforced. It's those small bike (couriers) & those trycycle drivers that are a pain in the ass they will cut right in front of you since they are always in a hurry. Bumper-to-bumper traffic here (Manila) is a "War of Nerves". Just don't get intimidated by these other drivers.
Philippines: Coal Power Plants:
@draks I just wonder what's the purpose of these Smog Check at LTO everytime we register or vehicles, when you we see jeepneys, buses, trucks, & tricycles belching black smoke on their mufflers. It defeats the whole purpose of smog test.
Philippines: Auto Scams:
@deejay1952 419... Thanks for the tip bro. There's this scam website I've been meaning to shut down. It has been scamming the elderly religious people in the US for donations. It's run solely by an expat here in the Philippines pretending to do missionary work in remote poverty stricken areas in P.I. But in reality the guy uses the donated funds for his daily sustenance; dining on TGIF, Shakeys, The Outback; buying expensive camera equipment; island hopping around the country; etc... He hates the poor, calls expats "sexpats", their Filipina wives "whores" or "gold diggers", & insults and slanders the expat community here in P.I. The guy even has an account in this forum and comments every now & then.
Philippines: dumaguete:
There's three YT vloggers that live in Dumaguete that I know of, who covers a lot of topic, (including internet service). Two of them even have websites. You have to browse the videos in their YT home channel to find their topic on internet in Dumaguete. Here are the YT channels: 1) Philippine Dreams, 2) LifeBeyondTheSea - Philippines, 3) Bud Brown. Isolation? LOL, there's a lot of expats there. Although you can't compare Tagaytay & Dumaguete fair & square. Tagaytay is way better w/ regards to ambience, amenities, & climate.
Philippines: Flat:
@ nick66786 Can't rely on the cost per sq. meter rent. It all depends on the location and amenities of the rental. Furnishings & utilities that comes w/ the rental also plays a role in the cost. You could be renting a 35 sq.meter rental in the slums of Tondo for $250 a month or a 20 sq meter condo in Makati for $850 a month.
Philippines: Mail:
Regular letters are okay w/ Phil. Post Office; BUT sensitive documents like bank cards are super risky. In fact Filipinos call it Phil. Lost Office. Ask your bank if they could send you your bankcard via Fedex -- way much safer.
