Any advice much appreciated
Saudi Arabia: Moving Teenage girl to Riyadh:
After reading your post and the lifestyle your daughter leads, please think VERY carefully about Saudi. I took my
Son at 15, and even life for a western male is limited. He could walk the mall with friends but not without being harassed on occasions. His social life was NON EXISTANT outside of the compound unless accompanied by myself or my husband at friends compounds. Water parks are non EXISTANT, movie theatres are not allowed, and walking the ocean front or shopping street is just plan UNSAFE. I ended up sending my son to the DOD school in Bahrain to be a boarder. We saw his on weekends. He was one of 2 westerners in yr. 11 and was a little less restricted, yet no where near as unrestricted as in the USA. Whilst in Saudi He was in an American school. 11 kids in his school yr.: 3 Americans. I left after yr. 11 PURELY to get him back to the USA and NORMALITY. my husband and I are now in Qatar, my son is in University and regrets ever moving to Saudi with us. I have a 12 yr old daughter also, and if my husband was to return to Saudi for work WITHOUT A SHODOW OF A DOUBT, I would not take her. My kids are more important to me than waking up next to my husband every morning. I would visit and leave it at that.... Please think very carefully.... Unless your daughter is a homegirl who likes being with mom and dad all the time, isn't keen on going out and expecting the basic American luxuries (free movement in Malls, theatres, water parks.... Etc) then I would give it a miss.....
Qatar: schools:
Can anyone tell me if ANY of the British/English schools are accepting applications...???
Thanks...
Saudi Arabia: Pet Travel IN and OUT of Saudi:
In order to take your dog just ask your vet to list the dog as a GAURD DOG, on the health cert he does for the dog... Explain how difficult Saudi is and that the vets in Dhahran (Saudi) say its the only way to get them in... They should be compassionate.... Good luck....

Qatar: Help with socialising...!!!:
I am relocating to Qatar in the new year to join my husband... Moving to the Middle East is not an issue for our family. I grew up in Kuwait and my children grew up in Saudi... Having said that, I have been back in the UK for nearly 2 years now settling my eldest into college.. Profession wise I am in healthcare, my husband works in the petrochemical construction field... Our 2 younger children are 12 (going on 18) and 7 (going on 30)....!!!!!!! Both kids are very sociable and make new friends easily.... However, my main point of this post is to find out how PARENTS get to meet new people and continue a social life..? My husband and I are very easy going, like BBQ's, a few drinks (at home or out). Myself, I am a costa freek (lol) and both of use enjoy hosting dinner and going out to dinner... We are also up for a kicked back chill out in the garden or around a table just catching up on general goings on... If anyone has any info or leads on the best way to get to know people we would be grateful..... I am up for a BBQ at our for those wanting a meet and great to get to know us newbies...!!!!! Kids welcome obviously.... As long as they like pups.... Mine will be flying with me.... Thanks in advance for any advice....
