United Arab Emirates: Moving to Dubai with family -kids 10 and 14:

Dubai American Academy (DAA) and American School in Dubai (ASD) are both good schools. My son went to DAA, as at the time, it had just opened its new campus, which was a lot closer to where we lived. It's also right next to Mall of the Emirates, which was convenient for the kids (my son was 17). I believe ASD now has a new campus as well. My son enjoyed his year there - he liked the principal and most of the kids, he felt comfortable speaking out in his classes, they have a challenging IB program, he played on the tennis team, and ultimately got into a good university back in the States. While on the tennis team, he met and got to know several students from ASD, and they seemed to like it there as well. This was a few years ago, but I don't think you can go wrong with either school. Good luck! You'll love your time in Dubai!

Saudi Arabia: Where to live when working in Rabigh:

Commuting from KAEC is very feasible, as it's only 40 km to Rabigh, which is much shorter than traveling from Jeddah. There is a very nice (new) hotel in KAEC, if your company will pay for it. I'm not sure about short term apartments, although I've heard they just finished one of the marina apartment buildings, so that may be an option. KAEC is very nice and clean, with an international school, a Panda grocery store, restaurants, hotel, pharmacy, medical center, bike paths...etc., all on the Red Sea. They have just broken ground on the Sports Center and the golf course. If you're married, women in KAEC are not required to cover up. Good luck!!

Saudi Arabia: Taking a Yorkshire terrier dog to KSA:

Hi...yes, most 'toy' dogs are banned in Saudi, and when my husband (with the help of a local vet) first applied for a permit for our 5 lb Malti-poo last year, he was denied. But he then met with the top official who originally denied us, and basically begged him. The official agreed, if my husband would sign a document saying we would not breed the dog, and we would bring her back to our home country when we left Saudi. This may work for you as well. Or perhaps an Aramco official has some pull with the government. Good luck!

Saudi Arabia: Moving to Rabigh:

I have only been to Rabigh once, and have never seen the 'camp' there, but I live in KAEC, and it is very nice. It is still new, but growing very quickly, with restaurants, beaches, and parks. In another year, the sports center will be finished, as well as a golf course. It's probably half way in between Jeddah and Rabigh. If you like a new, clean, quiet environment right on the Red Sea, then I would suggest KAEC. Good luck!

Saudi Arabia: Pet Travel IN and OUT of Saudi:

My husband currently lives near Jeddah, and I will be joining him with our small dog in the next month or so. After I get the pet permit and health certificate to get my dog into Saudi, am I then able to leave Saudi with my dog for vacations and get back into the country without getting another pet permit every time? Is this permit difficult to get once we're in Saudi? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!
