Philippines: Atrocious behaviour of some expats:

Meniscus, I agree with you to a point. But it is difficult to stay quiet when seasoned expats tell newcomers that Davao is safe when it has a reputation as a killing field. Bertel is notorious for it and deserves to be called out.

Philippines: Education in the Philippines:

The education system is bad, I didn't know it was so bad that doctors from here are nursing assistants stateside. Unless my doctor was lying, she said she passed the Ohio stare exam the first time. So did her husband. They attended the University of East Asia, I think. I dated a doctor who failed the entrance exam for an OG/GYN program in the states. She was valedictorian in high school and graduated at the top in UP. Most colleges are dreadfully inadequate. You can teach with a bachelors. The government far too often allows diploma mills to masquerade as colleges. Someone I know well has intructors who will miss class for weeks at a time and will not inform students. I am talking several teachers. The college is owned by a politician.

Philippines: Home Entertainment:

Yet, Duterte supporters want small time drug dealers killed.

Philippines: Dangerous, life in the Philippines???:

I agree with him too, Bartel. But what he says is a far cry from you telling a newcomer to go to Davao because there is no crime since Duterte cleaned the place out and it is safe when in reality it has the highest murder rate in the country.

Philippines: Agriculture in the Philippines:

Bill, drugs will never disappear from here. If people like it, they'll figure out a way to get it.

Philippines: Politics:

There will be streets named after him everywhere, statues of him in city squares, and he may be raised to the status of Rizal too, if he stops crime at the level he says he can and keeps the economy going............... The trouble with DU30 is a billion peso bounty on his head. I hope he does reduce crime, drugs, and corruption, but the bounty is so high the drug lords might win the war.

Philippines: Quick decision to move:

English is spoken everywhere. Not everyone is fluent. A vast majority are conversational enough to get by. I know a little about Cebu. I rode a motorcycle around for a week. Been there twice. By the third day my throat was scratchy from air pollution. The city seems to be as modern as any typical city of compatible size except dirtier. Guys on this thread live there. Eventually someone my respond wiki th better answers

Philippines: Inheritance in the Philippines:

From what I gather the property ownership applies to business. I might be wrong

Philippines: Doctor for Disability:

Maybe the embassy is stacked with Filipinos and you know their customer service

If you are going to make films in China, do America one favor; be sure to sync the lip movements with the voice. lol Thanks for all the input guys. I really wouldn't be looking to work in TV as much and probably wouldn't be able to do producing as that requires speaking the language. As far as directing goes there are tons of Music Videos, Commercials, Promos and other things filmed in there that I could direct these do not require me to speak the local language and I can bring in the top standard of quality. I also would probably work in China a lot because they have a big film industry as well and I have spoken with management companies out there already and they are very interested in working with me but i dont want to live in China. In the Philippines the good thing is actually most crew members on all these productions get paid less than in the US so working on smaller budgets is easier. But if you are a good Director you tend to make good money no matter where you are in the world. One of my goals in going there would be to help improve the quality of commercials and music videos to a higher standard. As far as cost and traffic i am not too worried. I live in LA where the traffic is always difficult and rent for a 2 bedroom is about 130,000 Pesos a month. But is there any problems with home schooling? It seems at least for earlier years hiring a very good teacher might be cheaper than
