Vietnam: NA Beer:
I work hard every day at logging of sorts. My grand nephew cuts down non producing fruit trees in his village and I stack and haul the wood for him. I'm tired and thirsty every day when I get thru and the only thing I have to refresh with is 7UP and although it does hit the spot, I really want an Odouls but I just can't seem to come close to finding any around here (HiepDuc) and MeTho is the closest CO-OPI but I haven't seen any there. Does anyone know where a guy can get a non alcoholic beer? I'm a recovering alcoholic and haven't had a drink since New Years Day 1986 (I had a half an Oly watching the Rose Bowl) so NA is the only way I go. There's just no better thirst quencher than a beer on a hot day and boy do I miss an Odouls.. Use to be I'd walk a mile for a Camel, now I'd even go to HCMC for an Odouls. Thanks in advance. Mike
Vietnam: Help:
Guys, I need some assistance on a delicate matter. Is there a place where a man can get the big blue pill in HCMC. If so , where and about what can I expect to pay.
Vietnam: Where to shop:
Coming back to Vietnam, HCMC. I have my son and daughter with the wife and we would like to buy lots of cloths and shoes, hand bags. I know about the big market in HCMC but does anyone have a place in mind we can tell a cab driver to take us to for inexpensive Nikes, and lots of cloths at very good prices. We want to get lots of the Vietnamese style outer garments for woman and girls and some shirts for men and boys plus any items strictly Vietnamese. Please give me some store names and maybe district locations. We only have from this coming Saturday thru the 11th and will only be in HCMC on a couple of occasions to shop and eat. Can you help us on a nice place to eat with Vietnamese and French style food that is not over the top expensive? Saigon is so big and we have such a limited time to visit
Vietnam: Thinking of moving to Vietnam:
If you are making 12,500,000,000 dong per month retirement, you can live anywhere and have 50 servants and whatever. That is surely an incorrect amount. It translates to over $500,000 a month
Vietnam: Coffee Mugs:
Does anyone know where a guy can get a decent coffee mug, not a tea cup but a mug?
Vietnam: Holidays:
I want to wish all the Christian expats in Vietnam a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Joyous New Year. And to all a expats and nationals alike very wonderful time in the upcoming Tet . May your lives be peaceful and full of wonderful new experiences. I love Vietnam and want to join the expat ranks but my Vietnamese wife is still working in the profession she chose and does not want to retire yet. She is a great chef and very popular so I don't wish to derail her. Bless you all in this wonderful time of year. leontwagon aka ti ti bac si
Vietnam: Migration:
My wife and I are bringing our 30 something married son and daughter and daughters best girlfriend to HCMC in March. I've been back a couple times and the wife has been back many times. My concern here is what to do for the 8 days and nights they will be staying in Vietnam. I want the kids to have a great time and visit with the side of their family that they have never communicated with nor even new who they were. I would like your thoughts on where to go, what to see and what to shop for. They will be living in our house in a small jungle village in the Delta near My Tho. I have a plan for a day trip to Vung Tao and shopping at the big mall in Saigon plus a boat ride on the Mekong. Any suggestions would be great. I only know the Cam Rhan Bey area slightly and lived in Saigon for about 2 and a half years but that was over 40 years ago when it was booze, babes and bullets so am really a novice when it comes to what to do and where to go. Don't want excitement, just beautiful experiences, looking, dining, shopping, enough to fill in the 5 or 6 days we have nothing planned. My son wants to get a special tattoo of what he says is a unique Vietnamese dragon. Does anyone know of a place where he can get tattoos, either in HCMC or My Tho? One last question, I want to get veneers and will be in Vietnam for three months. Does anyone out there have an experience to share on that? Thanking you in advance. Mike-the tee tee bac si
Vietnam: Veneers:
I would like to know any ones positive experience with getting veneers in HCMC or My Tho. Also any bad news too. I'll be in Vietnam for 3 months starting in March and want to look my best before heading to my maker or the other place and thought a nice smile may get me closer to where I'd like to end up. I'd also like to know where I should not go. It's been a very long time since I was on my own in Saigon and the last thing I want to do is sight see or socialize in a dark alley. Any help? I lived in Saigon for two and a half years but that ended in 1973 after the POWs were released and the peace keepers took over Tan Son Nhut. I was a medic on TSN and as I've seen on a trip in March, a whole lot has changed, can't find any old haunts or even where I lived, street names have mostly all changed. Thanks for any help. Vietnam: Laptop use:
The last time I was in Vietnam I used my nephew's laptop but it was really slow. He lives in the boonies and buys internet time when he needs it. I want to know if I can use my own laptop in Vietnam and if so how do I get access to the internet. I've heard rumors that countries can block access. I am computer illiterate, 73 years old and want to keep in touch with my family in the states while staying in the jungle for 4 months with just my Vietnamese in-laws and no English speaking person except me. I'm taking my adult children there but they are staying just 10 days and then my wife is taking them back to the states. Also how do I establish an email account/address for my nephew's computer and can I use a web cam to send with? I know to most of you, these ?s may seem dumb but like I said I'm no tech wizard, so please, some of you brainy expats, please help an old guy figure it out. Thanks
