Lithuania: Work in Lith.:

Just to correct some facts - Lithuania is a bit bigger and has a larger population than Latvia. And people are working everything from A to Z, like in most of the other civilized countries. My point is that if you think that we majority of population is fishermen or farmers, your are quite mistaken. There's no difference between Lithuania and Germany or France in this regard.

Regarding IT - Lithuania has indeed a quite strong position in this field - many strong, potential IT companies and lots of young skilled IT professionals in the market. Many world wide know companies have outsourced their IT operations to LT, like for instance Barclays.

Please don't mind "rikmo" - he's notorious on this website for his unbelievable extent of pessimism and negative attitude and opinion on all and everything that starts with the letters Lithuan.... I'm afraid the cruel fate might have indeed trapped him in some poor ventilated position at some "sproats" fish-farm... :-)

Lithuania: How do I find qualified workers?:

Hi LTorange, If you want to get ripped-off and overpay by at least 200-500% of what's normal in this market, you can address such nanny-providing companies as this one here: http://www.aukles.lt/index.php?lang_id=10 Otherwise you could ask some local friend of yours to do a search (and put in an add) on http://skelbiu.lt If you need a nanny, I happen to know one excellent girl who has been working as a nanny for the last 6 years. She was loved by all of the families that she worked for - she connects so easily with children, and in general is very loyal and can always be counted on. Has lots of real references, too. She is available from the 1st of January. Good luck!

Lithuania: Message from cousin - Lithuanian to English translation:

Hi dear cousin, Perhaps you wish to come to Lithuanian some time in the future? I'd like to ask how aunt Verute is doing, I can't get in touch with her. How is she?

Lithuania: English to Lithuanian translation:

dnyhan's mere assumption immediately became rikmo's science-based fact.

And the story went the usual way: no matter what the topic is about, just like all roads lead to Roma, all rikmo's posts soon turn and lead to how bad Lithuania and Lithuanians are.

Luckily for us, this time rikmo did admit that he might have been too brash and cheeky in his "estimations". Although small, that's still a progress. Good for you, rikmo.

One question remains though: who's the chimp in this story ?

When it comes to bridges lighting one's way - this expression, although not being that common, does exist in the anglosphere.

Interpretation of it's meaning can vary and still make sense even without a time machine. Although I haven't heard this particular phrase before, and despite the fact that it doesn't exist in Lithuania, it still immediately made sense to me - one's experiences from the cut-off world/past strengthens/helps him in his path forward.

And, lastly, I don't see how Shmevus earned the assumtion of not being a native English speaker.

I would assume the opposite: his English seems flawless, he mentioned his Lithuanian grandfather (ergo Shmevus is most likely 2nd generation expat), and two generation back in time Lithuanians mainly emigrated to US and Canada which belong to anglosphere.

Lithuania: Nordmenn i Litauen:

Hei,

Lithuania: Native English speaking students in Lithuania ?:

Hi to everyone. I want to come into contact with any students in Lithuania, who have English as their mother tongue. I can offer a part time job for those who are interested.

Lithuania: Living in LT for 2 months:

Hi Rimantas. You are going to enjoy your stay here, that's for sure. The only thing which could mess thing up a little bit is rainy weather. But since you're gonna stay here for the whole 2 months, you will anyway get to experience many nice days, too. The last summer was wonderful - I can only recall 5-7 days of rain throughout the whole summer.---------- Regarding car for rent: no problems at all, you can rent a decent car one for 40 USD per day. If you rent it for the whole period, it will be even cheaper. If advice you to use someone local to rent it for you, so that you don't get ripped off by som egreedy rental company. ------------ Regarding hotel: Ambassador Hotel in the Gediminas avenue is exactly what you need. There you will get a free and secured parking lot, cheap prices, direct access to the very senter of the city with windows looking over the Gediminas ave.. I have myself stayed in this hotel on many occasions. If you want, I can talk to the manegement of this hotel for you, so that you do get the best possible offer. ------------- Alternative to a hotel would be to rent a decent flat somewhere in the oldtown - you could save even more money, while enjoying the total privacy and feeling of living in your own place.---------------- Feel free to ask if you have more questions, or if you need any help with car or hotel - or anything else. I'll be more than glad to help you. Merry Christmas ! Anyway, feel free to ask for any help

Lithuania: Looking for a girl named "Inga Simkute" in Klaipeda:

Lithuania: Moving lithuania as an Architect:

Hmm... I think these statements apply mostly for rural territories of Lithuania. Habitants of capital Vilnius are very friendly - the fact that we don't have that much colored quests or habitants, may cause people "stare" at the "strangers", and that could be interpreted as xenophobia, but it isn't - as long as you do not avoid contact. However, everyone attending night clubs and places like that, where alcohol is consumed, raises his chances of getting into trouble - foregners just as natives. And chances of getting into trouble are not higher than in France or Germany. Average salaries are low, and the welfare is poor - touché. But low salaries don't apply high skilled specialists. When it comes to medical care - Lithuania has the best, highly educated and skilled doctors in Europe.
