New Zealand: Life in NZ:
Visiting NZ is a lot different than living here. Kiwis are more than happy to have you come here and spend money. THEY DO NOT WANT YOU TO MOVE HERE. If you are feeling like you are being discriminated against because of recent American politics, think again. I have been here off and on for ten years and this has always been a place that discriminated against outsiders.
New Zealand: Over 55 Mental Health Professional wants to migrate from U.S. to New Zealand:
You can not immigrate to New Zealand under the general skills category if you are over 55.
New Zealand: New Job Offer Requirements:
Everyone should check out the NZ immigration web site . As of tommarrow, the requirements have changed a lot under the General Skills category. You HAVE to submit a job offer with your application. There is no more issuing of the 6 month visa to go and look for a job in New Zealand while your PR application is pending. And the job offer must be relevant to your qualification...no more non-relevant job offer points. It is getting harder. Good luck everyone.
New Zealand: American Clubs In New Zealand:
I am looking for friends and contacts in NZ... see below. I did find the American Club and Auckland Women's Club on the consulate web site. Does anyone know anything about these clubs? Can anyone refer me to any ex-pat groups clubs that are frequently meeting? I lived in NZ previously for five years and it was pretty rough always being different so would really like to make some American friends this time. Thanks!
New Zealand: Legal or Dental Job Contacts:
Does anyone have any contacts in law or dentistry? I need or have friends who need jobs in those areas. Also looking for expat friends to relate with.

New Zealand: how easy is it to get work?:
I think you might be going about this the wrong way, but please do not take my advice verbatim and double check what I tell you. You should apply for your (PR) residency first. If you are within five points of passmark you are invited by immigration to apply for a work visa under which you may travel to NZ and have six months to find a job. You then submit the job offer and you get your PR. To gain the points for the job offer however, the job offer must be in relation to your qualification. For example, if you have a degree in dentistry you must get a job offer as a dentist. I do not think that a job offer in general office work would do anything for you. I would look into the requirements for a job offer before you undertake moving your family around the world.
New Zealand: Difficulties finding manufacturing employment.:
I have heard from residency consultants that kiwis like to hire "on the spot". I don't know if that is true or not, but it may explain why you are having problems finding employment from afar.
New Zealand: Moving to Christchurch from USA:
National bank new zealand has forecasts for rate..by end of year they are saying it will break .60. I personally would wait a year...but look at economic data and decide for yourself. They don't expect it to be down to around .55 until 2005, so there wouldn't be much benefit in waiting unless you can wait a long long time. FYI PR's need to put 20 percent down on a home to qualify. Maybe you should just change what you need to qualify for a loan and change money when rates are better and pay off loan in a few years.
New Zealand: Retiring, living, staying in New Zealand:
Did you get information about NZ you needed? You had a lot of questions.
I know most, will answer few but you can e-mail me if you didn't find answers.
Anyone can buy property in NZ, but if it is over a million dollars or in some protected areas like the coast, there might be some more restrictions, requirements.
You can stay 3 months on a visitor permit. You can extend that 3 months at immigration.
