Nicaragua: Renewing retirement visa:
For one, I would clearly like to see a new thread on the option of citizenship after five years of residency. If I knew the first thing about it, I'd say so.
Please, anyone out there informed enough to provide information and/or links?

Nicaragua: Voltage & surges:
Hi Folks,
I try to keep my head out of the computer, but it is a meager income. A couple of questions related to that:
1. Is Internet reliable in Managua? Cost?
2. Do I need to bring a 'constant voltage transformer?' That is not for spikes, but for long surges and low voltage...both harm motors & SSD computers.
3. I have a used Netbook and laptop. Will I get hassled for import tax?
Thanks,
George
Mexico: Types of Visa:
Hi Folks,
This must have been discussed in detail, yet I cannot find current information. Some tell me the law is still in motion.
After exchanging emails with a 'visa assistant' in Baja, my confusion rose. She adamantly states that a verified USD2400 per month income is required for a permanent visa. I have been planning my move based on my Social Security, which, of course, does not come to that amount. I also heard if I buy a house, (I plan to, after looking around) home ownership creates a new set of rules.
Here is the scoop, I hope for a straight answer.
1. I am 68, retiring with only SS of a little over USD1000, savings enough to buy a home (not on leased land, rather in a trust or whatever is required.) I do not plan to work or start a business, but I may work online for a US university.
2. FATCA: If I read the IRS page right, living off-shore...Mexico...for 330 days per year or more allows me to keep up to USD200,000 in the bank and own a home without the reporting requirements.
Please help, my local accountant knows less than nothing about this and I can't see to get a clear picture of the visa requirements.
Thanks,
George

Hi,
Anyone out there live in San Jose? I'm moving shortly and need a rental until I can find my own place, which could be a year or so. Sure would appreciate some help, I know there are trustworthy Realtors out there, but most have a used car salesman reputation.

Nicaragua: dengue fever out break:
Okay, I laughed when I first heard it and figured it for a sales trick until I tried it.
Living in Hawaii, we have a fairly new variety of mosquito..small and very fast..nearly impossible to swat. The cure? Avon "Skin So Soft." I know, it sounds weird, but it is non-toxic, no over powering sent, and the mossys don't land on me.
Peace
