Russia: I don't get it (salary vs. living expenses):

Maybe if you want a place in the center with all the amenities. Hell you can likely find something on airbnb for 50k a month.

Russia: Moving to russia:

If you don't have work lined up or are married to a Russian national it might be a bit difficult. To live there you're going to need a work visa that requires your employer to sponsor you. Getting a residency permit is a very long process and not likely to be successful if youre not married to a Russian national and or employed.

Russia: living in Russia:

The ranks of expats is constantly falling. It is true that in general western/white Europeans were generally well treated and liked. However, even at the best of times their were anti western forces which i can only imagine have gotten worse.

Russia: Russia:

Well she might be happy with some of the produce but the quality meat, while i was there, was imported and now with the sanctions. In terms of dairy forget about it. the vast majority of cheese produced locally are counterfeit and the milk is so heavily pasteurized that it isnt refrigerated until its been opened and would be very surprised if you could find organic milk at all.

Russia: What salary deductions are applicable?:

Its 13% flat once you have passed the residency thresh hold its 30% for a non resident.

Russia: How to emigrate from US to Russia:

To start I love Russia and Russian people. That being said I would strongly recommend against moving to Russia at this time. Especially to a small medium sized town. The quality of life issues aside you would really struggle not knowing the language, anti americanism is through the roof. The few expat friends still in Moscow have recommended that I not visit at the moment due to antiamericanism and in smaller locales it will be worse. Also $1200 isnt going to get near as far as you think. You will not be able to get residency from here. You'll need to travel on a visa. The current restrictions on various visas are unclear to me as my last one was a work permit. It will be very difficult if not impossible, without bribes or using a facilitator to play in the grey area, to get a residency permit. It will require a laundry list of documentation, are limited issues per year, and require formal application to leave the country every time. Huge pain in the ass for sure and i would say doubly so with everything going on now. Whats your motivation to move to Russia now? Especially now. I have tons of friends that have been there 20+ years that are heading for the doors..

Russia: I am so tired of the US:

Have you ever been to Russia? I lived there for 12 years. I loved the people and the culture but their leadership is a train wreck. If you dont speak very good russian forget any job but engilsh teacher. Other jobs are also getting crushed even for people with great credentials. It seems every month more and more lifers are hitting the exit. Lets not forget Americans are fairly hated there at the moment.

Russia: Don't buy the U.S. propaganda:

Really? RT is a state sponsored tabloid.

Russia: Moving to Russia:

In terms of living there and visas they're a bitch and getting more difficult. Though they have revamped their resident alien cards good news. But i think you have to have lived in Russia for a certain amount of time prior to qualifiying. But the fact your wife is a russian citizen it shouldn't be a problem. but your statement about eventually not having your visa renewed the reallity if you did something that brought this about they'd most likely revoke your residency as well.
