Guatemala: Looking for advice:
zaqwsx,
first of all Harvard is 40 years older than USAC. Harvard was founded in 1636 and USAC in 1676. Citizenship with one parent as a Guatemalan is automatic upon applying. The best university in Guatemala for medicine for example, Universidad Francisco Marroquin costs approximately Q5,500 per month for ten months of the year or about $733 per month. Calling USAC one of the world's finest universities is in my humble opinion stretching the truth and stretching it quite far...
Guatemala: Searching for Expats for interviews:
Have been here 23 years send me a PM
Guatemala: Weather in GUatemala city:
I have lived in or around Guatemala City for the past 23 years. The rains start later than they used to and end around the same time. I would say it rains less than 50% of the time and when it does rain, it is usually in the late afternoon or evenings. The weather has changed somewhat over the years with higher temperatures during March, April and May. However, as a prior person said this is the Land of Eternal Spring and few places worldwide have better year round weather.
Guatemala: Besides ..ANTIGUA ..?:
Try Todos Santos in the Cuchumantes Mountains.
Guatemala: mothly or weekly rental:
Great to read you are thinking about returning. Hope all is well. I would check olx.com.gt there are rooms for rent and small apartments for rent. Also, look at El Sol the weekly San Cristobal newspaper there are always a few places to rent in that. I beleive it has an online version.
Guatemala: rude foreigners:
I have lived in Guatemala for the past 23 years. Even though I have been a permanent resident for over 18 years I consider myself a guest in this paradise I call home. Many expats forget that fact and want to make changes to how things are done here. They also tend to talk louder in English believing the person they are talking to might understand them better even though that person's English is limited. Remember, unless were are Guatemalan or a naturalized citizen we are guests even if were are permanent residents and especially if on tourist visas of 90 days. We need to respect the traditions, the customs, and the cultural that make this country so attractive to so many. We need to remember this is not the country were are from and what works in our country of origin might not work here and should not be shoved down the throat of people here thinking that it will work better than what is already in place.
Guatemala: Pre paid mobile phones:
You can buy what they call a "frijolito" which is an inexpensive cell phone for Q150 that will come with Q100 or more pre-paid on the phone.
