Brazil: Leaving Brasil - how to get hold of FGTS?:

Hi. Ive been working in Brasil for a couple of years now, and my company will be moving me on to pastures new shortly. Since I will be forced to resign, I wont be able to get hold of the FGTS... I hear I cant get hold of it for 3yrs? Are there any ways around this? As I have heard that once I leave - and my visa expires, then I dont really have a formal leg to stand on, and all that lovely cash will go to waste... I would rather have some of it than the government! :-) Any advice anyone? Thanks.
