Any English speaking expats living in Braila?

Thanks to all for your help. My wife is Romanian and we were married in Romania. When I applied for long term visa we had to show marriage certificate and prove we had a place of residence . Paid application fees do not remember how much . In about two weeks they called and gave me a long term visa for five years. As for drivers license I talked to police department and they told me as long as my cdn license was valid no problem driving in Romania also found out I could trade in my cdn license for a Romanian one no tests. Canada is one of the countries that has an agreement with Romania about licenses. Once again Thanks for all your help.

I am now living in Romania. My wife is Romanian, went to officials to ask about long term visa, was told why bother they won't look for you.????? I will need a Romanian drivers license. Internet says I need to give up my Canadian permit,and have a long term visa. I do not want to lose my Canadian permit as I will be going back to Canada every now and then. If I get a long term residency card will I have to pay into Romanian health ins on top of my private ins? Very confused, no one seems to know anything, keep getting sent from one office to another one and at end of day still have not accomplished anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

hello will be retiring in Braila later this year Would like to hear from a Canadian retired in Romania, I am planning on keeping my bank accounts in Canada. Any problems getting access to these accounts? If I buy a car can I have money transferred to dealer. Last time I tried to use my credit cards they would not go thru. nothing owing on cards checked with bank when I got home they told me I should not have had any problems.. are some stores not set up for Canadian cards? Any information you can give me would help. Thanks

Hello I am new to this forum. I am planning to retire in Romania later on this year. Would like to know a good area to live in . Not really interested in big cities, Country side would be nice near a city. Have been to Braila and really liked it there. Any advice and help would be appreciated. Thank you Hans

hello I am planning to move to Braila later this year, I am planning on retiring there, I am a Canadian citizen, Wondering about long term residency, Will I have to pay taxes in Rom, on my pension from Canada? On average how much will I need in lei to live there? I have a apartment there so housing is not a problem. Also any other info you can give me will be appreciated Thanks
