Saudi Arabia: I'm Moving to Saudi!:
1) Do women have to wear the abaya at work (Princess Nouro Uni)? You have to wear an abaya any time outdoors and in public, except in an all-women environment such as where you'll be working.
2) What do you wear under the abaya? There is probably a dress code for teaching at PNU, if that's what your job will be. Usually formal wear at other colleges, long skirts to cover ankles, dress shoes, no sandals. No tattoos, purple hair, multiple face piercings or anything of that sort.
3) can you buy them in large sizes? (I am worried I wont get any to fit me whit I am there! If you are coming straight to Saudi, you'll need one before you get here so you can put it on at the airport, or before getting off the plane. There are women here in all shapes and sizes, so I imagine they come in all sizes.
4) what footwear is allowed? sandles? Out in town, whatever you like. Check with your employer about required footwear at work.
5) do I need to bring any winter clothes? cas I know it get's cold at night in the winter? if so... how much?
I brought three turtleneck sweaters for work and one hooded sweatshirt for casual time and I've been told this is enough.
6) what on earth should I pack? Whatever you can't live without. You can buy just about everything at the malls and shops here. I wish I had brought music CDs but I will bring some back after my next trip home.
Good luck!
Saudi Arabia: Moving to Al Hofuf:
Hi there. I moved to Hofuf/Ahsa a month ago and live on a compound. Do you know where in town you will be living? I believe there are a couple of "hotels" where expats live, and there may be a small gym there. There is a big gym in town, but I don't know about membership for women. If it's like Riyadh (from what I've heard), fees for women are ten times more than for men, and if there is no separate area, then there will be certain days in the week when women can use it. I think the only recreation outside for women is going to the mall, but I could be wrong.
Saudi Arabia: Moving a family to Riyadh:
Wow, that was the most reassuring and positive message I have seen. I am scheduled to move to KSA next week, and there are so many negative posts. I believe that people usually find what they are looking for or expecting, in general. Positive outlook = positive experience. Thank you!
Saudi Arabia: Mail into and out of KSA?:
I am planning to mail some personal belongings to myself in Saudi Arabia for a one year stay. Assuming that I am not packing alcohol, drugs or skin magazines, can I expect to receive all my items intact? Also, how reliable is outgoing mail to the USA? Any info based on experience would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Saudi Arabia: International banking KSA:
I will be moving there in two weeks and have been told that my salary will be deposited in a Saudi bank account that I am required to open. Are there any restrictions on transferring funds electronically from a personal KSA account to my personal US bank account? How do people usually do this? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Saudi Arabia: Internet and other questions:
I am a 48yr old female US citizen moving to KSA for work at the end of next month, so I am reading everything I can about life there. There seems to be a lot of negative info, but I know there are Western women who have been there for years and enjoy it, so I am hoping to read more positive comments. Anyway, about the Internet there, rather than bringing a ton of books, DVDs and music CDs, I would rather access these things from the Internet as I currently do at home. I am talking about yoga, exercise, health and wellness, inspirational, self-help type materials available online instead of bringing books and DVD's, and I would want to listen to free music sites such as Pandora. I don't know yet where in KSA I will be, and I might even be moving around every few months to different cities and towns. I am concerned about censorship and these things not being accessible on the Internet in KSA. Are decent movies and TV shows available on television there? What is available and what is censored on the Internet? Also, (unrelated) are there many places to get a massage, and what would it typically cost for an hour?

Ecuador: four nights, first time in Ecuador:
I only have four nights and am arriving in Quito at 5:30PM mid May. I plan to spend the first night in Quito and the next three nights at a beach or mountain location. Can anyone recommend the best areas stay? Also looking for real estate for possible second home. Thank you!
