In Belize you can start/own a business, however, you can't "run" the business per say. You must hire/train local citizens to run/operate the business. Many tour/fishing businesses are owned by outsiders, who either live there or don't, but own businesses. I'm sure if you started a business, you could find locals on AC, or better yet near one of the larger communities on the mainland, like south to start your business. Best contact the US Embassy on who to talk to there, then head down and check it out. I personally know a friend from Texas, that started his tour business in Belize last year, and it's run by Belize citizens. He's a silent owner. Hope this helps. Just know there are a lot of "hoops" to jump through. WTG

Belize: Going to Belize soon:

Great answer. I would only add that anyone interested in moving to Belize should complete their own due diligence, then actually go there at least a couple of times. Check out Ambergris Caye, Corozal, and south in Stann Creek area, Placencia for sure. IMHO ;-) I did, and we are building in Stann Creek.

Belize: Expat Gatherings:

Susie IMHO I would suggest you visit southern Belize, especially Placencia area. The best cleanest water grass free beaches in all Belize, including Ambergris. Ambergris is right for some, but it's either really busy with tourists, if dead. Placencia Stann Creek area is building a nice community of Expats, with two major expat communities, Medical Center, restaurants, etc. it would be worth looking at. For specific community homes, condo's being built info, please private message me. BTW..I'm not a salesperson for any, but just bought land to build a home in this area, after multiple visits. Good Luck,

Belize: Vacation Rentals:
