Ecuador Welcome Forum: Selling a TV in Quito?:

Try looking at the listings on OLX, Ecuador's answer to Craigslist. Or, for that matter, Craigslist, which also exists in Ec. I've found more listings on OLX, and have used it to sell with good effect.

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Roads between Guayaquil and Quito safe?:

My wife and I want to travel by bus from Guayaquil to Quito on Wednesday the 8th - can anyone with first-hand knowledge tell me if there are currently any major impediments to such a trip (flooding, mud/rock slides, etc.) on the highways between the two cities? Thanx!

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Looking for Room to rent - Cuenca:

Have you considered AirBnB? If you look up Cuenca listings on their site, you will see any number of very desirable rooms - and even entire houses/apartments on offer for $15.00-30.00 per night, with many offering significant discounts if you stay a week or longer, In my book, the only way to fly!

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Moving:

I am now living in Guayaquil on a resident visa. I flew here from Seattle WA last August on a one-way ticket, no problem. But I understand that, depending on who you deal with on arrival, you may be required to have provable onward transportation. So I bought a cheap bus ticket to just across the border in Peru for about 15 bucks, if I remember, dated for two weeks after my arrival by air. Turned out I did not need it, but it gave me cheap peace of mind. On the other hand, you could explore buying an open-ended round trip ticket, if you think you might want to go back to the States anytime soon.

Seems fine here in Guayaquil......

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Wondering what you miss in Ecuador?:

Hi folks - my Ecuadorian wife and I have been brainstorming business ideas for when we move from Guayaquil to Cuenca in a few months. We'd be curious to know which, if any, businesses, stores, services and other enterprises you have missed and found to be unavailable in Cuenca, or anywhere in Ecuador for that matter. Many thanks in advance for your kind participation!

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Calling all (any?) Guayaquil Gringo/as.....:

I am a norteamericano from Seattle, WA, and have been living in Guayaquil with my Ecuadorian wife since last August. In that time, I have only met and become friends with one other expat who lives here full time. Surely there are more? I certainly didn't move halfway around the world just to hang out with other gringos, but after nearly six months of being immersed in the life of my wife, her family and friends, I look with no small amount of envy at Cuenca and the coastal communities, where expats are fairly well organized around a number of interests and activities. If there are any other gringos here who would like to meet up from time to time for coffee or a nosh, discuss possible mutual interests, maybe engage as a group in volunteer work - I would be really pleased to meet you! Lemme know..... Many thanks - Michael Gamble

Ecuador: Steal this thread:

This is by far the worst and most pervasive error - even in films, media and literature,,,,,,,,,,"me" versus "I," confusing subject with object. Example: "Me and Pam are going to the store." Would you say "Me is going to the store?" It should be "I am going to the store," and "Pam and I are going to the store." Or: "He went to the store with Pam and I," Would you say, "He went to the store with I"? To me the error has always seemed glaring, but it is so common as to almost be the new grammatical norm. Sad.

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Fax machine(s) in Guayaquil?:

Hi folks - I have a document that I need to fax to U.S, Social Security, and have looked high and low here in Guayaquil for a fax machine I can use. Someone suggested the post office, but that was a no go. My go-to place for fax-ing in the States was FedEx - but I can't get anyone at FedEx here to answer their phone, and I hate to make a trip across town to find out. Has anyone used a fax machine at FedEx in Ecuador? Or can anyone suggest somewhere else I might try? Many thanks!
