Global Expat Forum: Felony Conviction:
I have a ten year old felony conviction in the US. I got it when I was 40 years old. I have been virtually unemployable since. I am a good person, would never harm nor take from anyone, honest to a fault and fully accepted responsibility for my error in judgement.
I was a published author but no publisher will touch me now. I am a proficient musician and have done work on B'way. I used to work for a suicide hotline and I have volunteered teaching GED, ESL and ABE.
I can't even volunteer playing piano for a nursing home or church because even THEY do background checks and are unforgiving. Because of my experience with hierarchical database management (and the interviewer was a musician as well and we hit it off) I was offered a job with FEMA until they ran the check.
What country would I stand the best chance in obtaining a VISA or citizenship with? I know that I am "old" but only want a second chance and would be unremitting in my labor to serve, contribute and be productive once again.
