Uruguay: Beware of Architecs!:

Just like to say if you are considering purchasing a home in Uruguay thatyou should be very carefull of who you might get to do any renos or repairs on your new home. We purchased a home here and were hosed by a English speaking architec that promised the sun and the stars, instead we were left with uncompleted work and hosed for more money on paint costs that weren't needed. We have never been more disappointed in the workmanship of the workers and the overseer the Architec himself, and the who cares attitude, your problem now type thing. Terrible workers here, bring your craftsman skills with you , you will save yourself a lot of upset in the long run or just buy something already done...this is our advice to you. If you need a name of this Architec specifically please respond and I can get this to you.

Uruguay: Not the greatest place to be or decision!:

Would just like to speak on behalf of myself and my wife, that upon moving to Uruguay there is definately better places to be. The people have absolutely no use for the English expat and would rather die than try to speak a word of it. They are even taught it in school. The workers are very terrible and do shoddy, expensive work, and really are unreliable. They expect money before they need to provide the service, for this is all they have in mind. The mentallity is if your foriegner, you are rich in this case and, and get the money!! The service in the government offices is very slow and to top it off we will have been waiting 3 years now to get residency here. Really not impressed with the pricing on things here. Either for basic quality items, they are often price jacked to the hilt....anyhow, hope this will help some people if considering Uruguay to retire...not the best place to be or decision to make.

Dominican Republic: A Real estate company not to use!:

Recently my wife and myself bought a condo in Sosua. It was being managed by the Sosua Rental Service, and not only was it a complete mess when we arrived to vacation with my family, we had absolutely the worst management that could be offered as a client. Now that we have left,Sosua now (Dirc) Webber, the realtor, in charge, wants more money for management he hasn't even done and threatens to cut cable off etc till we pay him.Stay clear of this guy and definately do Not !! use him for management or otherwise. Find someone else, there are way better companies and realtors than this.
