Haiti: car advice:

I am moving to Haiti in Dec to work at the US Consulate/Embassy. I am trying to decide what car to buy--I've heard SUVs are a must. Does anyone have any suggestions about how robust a car needs to be if I'll be living in Port au Prince but hope to explore the island and also what makes are prevelant there for which I could service my vehicle if need be? Any help would be appreciated! Ellen
