Italy: Florence Agency recommendation for long term furnished apt. rental:

If you would like an agent to help you find housing, I really liked this woman: priscilla@athomeflorence.com She had really cute apartments and didn't waste my time looking at crap places. I pay 800 Euro monthly rent and utilities run around 100 euro/month. I also found a place for my first month there on Craigslist.

Italy: italian tax on pensions:

Interesting b/c I lived/worked in Italy for two years (6 years ago). Americans get two years tax-exemption on income working there because of a tax treaty. We had to pay 9% for socialized healthcare program though. I had a bank account while there too. I also had my permesso disirgiorno. After two years, you had to pay Italian taxes. One of my colleagues tried to get her taxes done for her in Italy to send back to the US .... they tried to rip her off and say she owed them money when she didn't (clearly b/c of the tax emeption). Italy: Car Buying Process:

Oh dear ..... be prepared for a frustrating ride. Getting ANYTHING done in Italy is a nightmare!!!!! You absolutely MUST be a resident to buy a car. Being a resident won't make it easy though. Everything else after that (insurance, repairs, etc) will be a nightmare as well. Sorry to be negative, but it's true :-s
