Ecuador Welcome Forum: New to the Exchange - looking for Advice:
Salinas: Hostal Aqui has been redone and looks very nice now. A little on the high side for price but close to Malecon etc. Salinas is sometimes very cloudy in Sept, but the sun is always out later in the year.
Cuenca: Try a BB by Malcolm Reading - He also does Cuenca Expats forum. Check those out. Remember Cuenca is about 8300'.
We spent 15 months in Salinas and have been in Cuenca for almost 6 months.
As others said 2 weeks is a short time to decide. You can always move around before settling. good luck and a welcome to Ecuador.
Ecuador: All this anger:
Welcome to Ecuador - Very nice comments and true. This forum seems to be the worse for attacks etc and most days I just skip it.
Best of everything to you. If I see you I will point you in the right direction.
Ecuador: prescriptions:
Take you prescription to one of the larger pharmacies and they will look the medicine up and find a local equivalent if it is available.
Otherwise you can go to a local doctor and have him/her look up what they feel is the equivalent.
I've done both with the same medicine and came up with the same answer.
Ecuador: Can you deposit a US personal check into an Ecuadorian bank?:
Yes, i do it every month and have done so for over a year. I find it to be easy, no cost and it usually takes about a week. I use bank of Pichincha and just go to their ATM and get cash I need and make change inside.
Ecuador: SRI Cover sheet:
Last year in Salinas they made me do seperate sheets for the different years. This is Cuenca so who knows, but I don't think you can file Jan 2015 receipts before Feb.
Ecuador: Poisonous Snakes and Wild Dogs and Dengue Fever:
We live in Salinas, EC on the coast. Been here about 15 months and we have a small dog (Chinese Crested) which weights about 9 lbs so slightly bigger than your dogs probably. The coast is warm and dry all year. I wore a sweatshirt probably 3 times this winter. It rained once or twice (I think, I just saw puddles in the morning). It did mist a few days. Have not seen a snake (and hope not to-saw enough rattlers in AZ and CA) There are some mosquitoes which bother my wife but don"t usually bite me
We moved here from so. Ca where we lived for two years. I like the weather here better.
Good luck!
Ecuador Welcome Forum: Either Ecuador or Prescott?:
I have lived in Prescott, AZ and it is a very pretty place with plenty of people and it is COLD AS ALL GET OUT IN THE WINTER. My brother and some other relations moved back there and they say the cold is the only real drawback.
North of Prescott in the back roads is some of the prettiest high desert (especially in the spring) around.
Just depends upon what you want. Why not visit Prescott in early Jan and see what you think of the cold and then visit here in Salinas and up the coast in Olon for the beautiful coast. I can guarantee you that it is less expensive overall to live here if that plays in your decision. Well the best of luck in your decision. I have lived in both places, am in my late 60s and don't plan on every going back to live in the US. My wife is mid 60s and feels the same.
We have lived in Salinas for 15 months and will be moving to Cuenca for a year in Dec. Then probably back to the coast. Good luck and we wish you well.
Ecuador: bankruptcy:
Not at all, they don't do a credit check.
Ecuador Welcome Forum: Moving Boxes:
Looking for 3-4 medium sized moving boxes in decent shape.
We live in Salinas.
Ecuador Welcome Forum: Opening a new bank account:
We use Banco Pichincha also and it was easy to open, just needed ID, address and a letter from someone who has an account there who would vouch for us (landlord did it).
