I am pleased to provide you with the right information about living in Riyadh since I am an expat (a teacher) who has been living in Riyadh for the last thirty years .I would say not to worry at all please come and you will like it . In the compounds people carry on the same life style as in the West.It is only when you go for shopping that ladies need to wear the Abayah but not the Scarf.I know an American family who came twenty five years ago and all their children were born and grew up here in Riyadh.Please not to worry there is a French International school and an American and British International school .If you need to learn Arabic I am specialized in teaching it for non-speakers.Please don t hesitae to ask me any further questions. Not to worry .of course few things are cesored here in the Kindgdom.I live in Riyadh and life is ok .You will be living in a compound and youcan drive inside the compound .You can also take part in the social activities run by the recreation centers in the compounds such as coffe mornings etc..you can also sign up in some physical activities run inside the compounds such as yoga ,Zumba,Aerobics etc....You can also sign up in some Arabic Languages private courses run inside the compounds .Like I offfer myself some Language and gymnastics classes.Overall it is not bad and it depends really on the person and how he would plan for his daily life and also holidays because what you can do also is to plan to go and visit neighbouring countries sech as Bahrain ,UAE and Oman.I hope I gave a better idea about the life in Saudi.Please feel free to request any further information. Thanks Julia for your request and I feel pleased to give you some useful informations.I am living in Riyadh for a long time now and I know that as an American family could have a nice living standard .There is an American school for the childrenand there are a lot of organisations that the American community can join .I am serving some the international community children by offfering them some gymnastics lessons in the compounds .I am also offering Arabic language lessons since I am myself an Arabic Teacher for non-speakers.There are many good places to visit like Madaen Salah and the National Museum.There is a Usera Club that offers a loy of activities for adults and children with a lot of sports and recreation facilities. I know all that because I served the US Mission for ten years as aa Language Instructor and I am very active within the expats Community as well.
