Ireland: Residency in Ireland?:
Residency & House ownership - I am aware that some County Councils in Ireland do have a clause relating to certain planning applications for new/rebuild properties that stipulates that you have to be from the locality/the area in question & this applies to all, including Irish citizens.
I personally came across this specific planning stipulation a few years back, with a house rebuild (I had purchased it following a fire with the original property) in Co Kerry & even though I am originally from Co Kerry myself .the fact that I did not specifically reside in the area in question was initially problematic but following a Planning Appeal to the State Planning Section ,the local residency clause was subsequently withdrawn by Kerry County Council.
For some reason, unknown to me ,this 'local residency clause' only applies in certain conditions/to certain properties. In the circumstances , it is wise to check out with the local Co Council,if there are any Planning stipulation attached to any property that you are proposing to build or to buy.
Ireland: Wet in Ireland?:
Well said ,silverzzr - good to see things like the weather in Ireland put into perspective - overall in Ireland we have what I call a relatively mild climate,a very mild climate for an island nation on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean & thankfully we experience few,if any weather extremes like huge storms, hurricanes, earthquakes etc. so overall we should thank our lucky stars & be grateful.
Ireland: Hopeful US - Ireland move:
Greetings,
I will assume that you are qualified to move to Ireland permanently/reside here - there are various treads on this subject on this site so I will concentrate on the other aspect of your enquiry - work opportunities.
As Co Kerry in SW Ireland is your chosen location - I can tell you that Tourism is very very strong in Co Kerry so if you wish to work for yourself in a Tourist related business, well Co Kerry is the right location. It's a truly beautiful county, majestic scenary - fabulous blue flag pristine beaches that go on for miles ,lakes ,mountains & lots more. There is always a strong consistent demand in Co Kerry for tourist related activities ,particularly in the peak Summer season for American/European visitors & in the offpeak - more & more Irish people are taking short breaks. So if your product/business proposal is right ,you should do well in a Tourist related activity.
If it is of interest to you,I will have a fine Country House ,in the grand classic design for sale next Spring/Summer ,that would have huge potential as a location to develop a Tourist related business in a nice coastal area of Co Kerry.
Set on a lovely mature wooded one acre site in an edge of village location - it offers beautiful views of the surrounding countryside to the front & rear, there are 2 great blue flag beaches nearby(Banna Strand & Ballyheigue).Impressive looking 6 bedroom Country House property with lots of outbuilding suitable for conversion ,if required, & lots of outdoor space. The house itself would be ideal as a nice Country House Bed & Breakfast relatively near the Atlantic coastline There is plenty room to develop another detached property on the site or perhaps a series of high quality detached log cabins with parking for tourist purposes. There is additional potential to develop a mobile home parking/service area ,as these are not allowed to stay adjacent to the local beaches. Glamping(high grade camping) is another popular Tourist business that is in short supply & could easily operate from here here.
In fact you would have sufficient room to conduct all of the above listed tourist activities here ,subject to receiving the apppropriate planning permission from Kerry Co Council. My property is listed on this site or alternatively you can view photos & a general discription on the following site - Preloved UK/Ireland section(Google for access to the site).
I wish you well in your plans to relocate to Ireland & your plans to set up Business here.
Best Regards,
Donie Horan

Ireland: Getting Connected:
Kerry people are a friendly bunch - smile & say hello when you meet folk out & about & you will soon fit in.Like any where else ,it may take a little time so be patient. The advise given by earlier contributers was very good.
Best of luck & I hope that you will be very happy in Ireland.
Ireland: Irish Foreign Births Register difficulty:
Great news for you ! - I sincerely hope that you enjoy your move to the Emerald Isle if that is your plan.
You & your family will be very welcome.
Ireland: new to Ireland:
Greetings,
You have a number of options on the relocation plans to Ireland.City properties ,particularly in /around Dublin & Cork is quite expensive - very expensive both to rent & to purchase. For Dublin ,you could look at adjoining counties such as Wicklow ,Kildare ,Meath ect but commuting daily can be tiresome & time consuming.
Alternatively, you could examine the possibility of relocating to the Irish countryside or perhaps the best of both worlds - an edge of village location in the country that is relatively near some good beaches ,for leisure purposes & ideally a large town that has good rail/bus transport linkages/hospitals/major shopping facilities etc etc.
You could Google properties for sale in Dublin/other cities to get an idea of current purchase prices or look at sites where property owners are selling/advertising directly - one good site is :
Preloved UK/Property/Ireland.
Good luck

Greetings Meachair 54,
I just happen to come across your communication on the Ireland Expat forum. If Co Kerry(or the Kingdom as it is known), in South West Ireland is of interest to you as the location for your home in Ireland - I will have a nice 5/6 b/r detached country home in the classic design for sale next year. The house sits on a lovely mature wooded 1 acre site in an edge of village location & is within a 10/15 min drive to a choice of 2 fabulous blue flag Atlantic beaches. Photographs/details can be viewed on the Real Estate in Ireland section of this Expat Forum or if unable to locate,I can supply details,on request.
Good luck with your application process for relocation to the Emerald Isle.
Ireland: American doctor looking for advice about working in Ireland:
As a good starting point ,I suggest that you visit the Irish Health Authority website - HSE .ie where you should find a mine of good relevant information.
Ireland: Petition count is 100:
Congratulations - well done !!
Ireland: Petition !!:
For those promoting the Petition to assist people wishing to retire to Ireland - for the first time an Irish businessman, based in Chicargo has been appointed to the Irish Senate & made his maiden speech to the Upper House in Dublin today.(Google for details).
I strongly recommend that those promoting the Petition ,to make early contact with this man,who obviously is well connected politically to the ruling party in Ireland - he could be a very powerful ally to the cause of helping those wising to retire/relocate to Ireland. If this man comes on board with the Petition ,his input towards reforming the legislation, could be invaluable !!
