You could go to Cuenca on the bus, it is a beautiful drive through the national park. You may have time for Vilcabamba but it would be tight. I would take one of the vans that go to Vilcabamba from Cuenca. There may be vans from Guayaqil. I do not know about these. They would be much faster than the bus. Or you can just hang around the coast which would probably be less stressful. If you like to party, stay in Montinita. Or go up further to Bahia and Canoa. A very out of the way place would be Mompeche. Very small and laid back.

We found the air very bad in Cue nca. We were downtown. Diesel fumes and particulants in the air. Eyes were irritated. Cleared up when we left.

My understanding is that it can be done in Quito, Cuenca, Manta and Machala. Does anyone know who could help with this in Machala ? My Spanish is not very good and would need someone to walk me through the process.
